Emotion start on cold engine??

3000 miles in now and I have noticed that emotion start (holding right paddle shift when starting engine) doesn’t ever work on my car on a cold engine and is a hit and miss on a warm engine.

On my mates A35 the emotion start always works even on a cold engine ... it actually sounds better on a cold engine.

Anyone had a similar experience? Is a problem with my car?

Thanks

Mine works every time when the engine is warm. It doesn’t take long to cool down though. As little as 20 minutes parked up and when I start it the revs go over 1000 for about 30 seconds then drop. I know if it revs high it won’t do emotion start.

I can confirm my A35 is consistently emotional. Shows emotion on every start when you hold the paddle, whether its warm or cold ?????????

Im now finding this the case whereas it seemed to always do it... Also noticed the car always seems to start in 'comfort' vs where I left it previous eg sport, unsure if this is normal or if I've saved comfort some how inadvertently in my profile. Only a week in ownership and still haven't got through the 500 page owner manual yet lol

@Irish boy you said you have everything on Race when you start. As Steve says above it all reverts back to C. How do you keep yours in Race when you turn on.

you hold your thumb on the button at the steering wheel( and it selects individual mode automatically when starting which I have everything set to race mode except suspension ) while your fingers grab the gear lever and the other hand starts her
And she bangs better worth trying a lot louder can’t wait to get downpipe and front pipe on the car to she how much more it sounds on start

let me know how it sounds

I think it’s the c, s, s+ and race button I took it as. @Irish boy please correct me if that’s wrong. I haven’t tried it yet myself so not sure.

Yes, the drive mode selector on the steering wheel. Press the selector, it's a shortcut to 'custom or individual' mode.
I recommend you select the drive mode to S+ or R before cranking the engine. But emotion start won't work on a cold start, drive for 5-10min and try 'emotion start'. It will time out after 15min also. It will make a few more loud pops in S+/R modes.

Cheers

Are you sure there's not a fourth button in the sequence cause my nose is available.

And it's only because of this I realised yesterday it also turns anti-clockwise from C for slippery and snow

@MarcPratz could you also explain how the car bangs when you do the emotion start? I know how it bangs when you lift off after WOT (wide open throttle), which is thanks to the injectors being configured to keep the flow for just a tad longer, causing the fuel to ignite in the exhaust. But how does it work during the emotion start? I imagine you get fuel flowing for a split second before the engine cranks up and the reason it won't work when the engine cools off is that the exhaust isn't hot enough either so fuel can't ignite.

edit: I just realized I should have posted that in Emotion start on cold engine?? mods feel free to transfer my post.

I am only able to get mine to Emotion Start once the engine is warm. And even then it deactivates after about 10-15 minutes of cooling. I actually find this quite disappointing (and useless) because who is going to drive around in their car, just so they can come back and park....and then use the Emotion Start! :(

I am guessing that you have a car that is very similar if not identical to the UK A45s, but can I ask about your exhaust. Is the sound muted as we have in Europe and the sound is piped in to the cabin at an increased volume. Or do you have the full fat AMG exhaust without any sound muffling. I'm guessing it is muffled like ours and I believe @vodka in Malaysia is in the same boat.

Brutal really. I am all for saving the planet and behaving in a civic minded way...but taking away our car exhaust notes and big naturally aspirated V8’s is a step too far for me! I guess I will just need to put one into the collection and save it and savor it.

Actually many dealers in U.K. have relationships with dealers in Singapore. The U.K. dealers “supply” them. So in Singapore there is one channel through the appointed local distributor, who is often most expensive and brings in models with lower specs and options and then the parallel import dealers who typically bring in the higher spec and better kitted rarer models - such as the AMG A45 S Plus.

There are no real tax “grey areas“ in Singapore which could allow you to structure tax avoidance (not illegal) schemes. The Singapore Inland Revenue will give you very specific rules to follow. And if they want you to pay less tax in a specific area they will tell you.

But other than cars and road charging the country is a lot lower tax than the UK.

No difference. Both are perfectly acceptable and legal. The main difference is that the parallel importer needs to set up and maintain their own workshop and handle all your warranty and servicing work. Otherwise you can pay an “adoption fee” to the appointed distributor which is usually exorbitant ($10,000 or more) to undertake your vehicle into their service program. You just need to do your homework to ensure you choose a parallel importer who has a strong history and reputation. Many have been around for 20-30 years successfully. Longer than the official dealer actually!

Tax implications are the same. And in fact dealer is often more expensive for the same product because they have both the markup from the official importer/distributor and their own markup as the official dealer!

Vehicles are registered as “new” and you are the first owner (no transfers). In some cases they do come in as a “used” vehicle even if they are new - this happens when they have been registered in the U.K. or Germany or wherever they are imported from - but I stay away from those. I think dealers in U.K. have a time limit on how long they can keep a car in their inventory and not register it. That’s why this sometimes occurs.

Taxes, duties and registration/tag fees in Singapore are sky high. Just to give you an idea, my 2020 A45S Plus was on the road for GBP 170,000. An AMG GT S is about GBP 675,000 on the road!! My Porsche Macan GTS was GBP 250,000 on the road.

I would imagine more reasonable in U.K.!

Don’t give the cowboys running our country any ideas. You can check out the first year car road tax on the UK.gov.uk site. Otherwise until the year end and hopefully beyond there is no import duty on EU made cars but 20% vat.

Macan GTS was definitely a nice machine. I have my sights set on the new AMG G63 to replace it though...assuming I like the AMG A45S+ (car is definitely fun/nice/cool....I do have some concerns about the build quality and rattles just 10 days in though...we see how those develop).

I don't want to intrude on this interaction, but I would be very keen to know how I make my ES happen straight out of my garage.
