Reverse Camera - Noise & Opening at low speeds and braking

I own a 2023 Facelift A200 W177 - Whenever the car is operating below 20mph, it sounds like the rear camera opens and the dashboard
🅿️
appears. Then it closes after I reach speed and the
🅿️
disappears. This is very audible driving out of my estate, which is very small road-heavy. It continues opening/closing as the speed changes - only stopping once I am constantly over the 20mph mark.

Throughout a 30minute car journey, this also happens when I approach red lights - you hear the rear camera engage as I roll below 20mph. This has happened since day 1 of owning the vehicle. Occasionally due to this, the rear camera is rendered inoperable as I pull in to park up.

Has anyone else had an issue like this and is there a remedy for it outside of sending it back to be fixed? I have checked across the internet with no clear answer, I have attached the PDF from another board discussing this but the "Remedy" does not fix the issue.

Same behaviour in a UK 72 Reg GLC, and 23 Reg A-Class.

Reverse camera cover opens at low speeds.

Its possibly related to the parking pack function which scans for spaces at low speeds.

Manual says:
“Active Parking Assist is an electronic parking assistance system, which uses ultrasound with the assistance of the reversing camera and 360° Camera. When you are driving forwards up to approximately 35 km/h, the system automatically measures parking spaces on both sides of the vehicle.”

I had forgotten to follow up on this; I rang the Mercedes Garage and the helpful lady confirmed that it's working as intended and that hers also does the same (2023 A180) on her daily commute. Guess I will have to stomach the noise of the camera opening/closing on small roads!

The rear camera initiates the 360 degree camera screens. If the camera screen does not come up on the screen, report it to your dealership.

for models August 2022 onwards
The 360 degree camera in the refit (from August 2022) was made automatic, with no avenue from the driver to turn it on & off (like 2018-2022 models, which now the setting doesn’t work & they system is no longer automatic either). This is due the the EU regulations that this type of technology must be automated & not driver initiated.

For 2018-2022 models:
There is a setting to turn reverse camera on automatic or off in settings - this no longer does anything. Mercedes to comply with the new EU regulations have removed anything driver initiated. But instead of giving us the automatic capability of the 360 degree camera system, they have stupidly given us a manual driver initiated system 🤦🏼‍♀️

That button everyone says to press? Is the assisted (automated) parking.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE report this to the dealer, even if your car is out of warranty. You paid for a feature in the vehicle you no longer have access too. This issue is world wide.

The 360 degree camera also is a function in many of the other driver assistance programs & parking assistance programs.

my camera in my new class comes on and off when I brake
which I wouldnt mind if it werent so noisy - at first I thought there was something rumbling about in the boot - the Dealership has been amazing at looking into this issue - been told today by CEO office that apparently camera opens below 30 and closes above 30 mph - first I have been told this and not something that I have found as it has been a bit more random even when braking on motorway - anyway back at Dealership today so we shall see what the outcome is - Mercedes customer service has been excellent so far as well as the Dealership.

My wife’s A200 does this but it’s just noise. It doesn’t show up on the screen. I’m sure MB will do a software update in due course.

MB have contacted me today to tell me this normal operating noise and is not faulty will not accept my rejection of the vehicle
You’ll get used to it I don’t really notice it anymore more.

Hi, just purchased a new 2024 A class, my question is when I slow down to less than 20 mph I hear a noise like the reversing camera opening although the screen doesn't show rear view is this normal or is it something else.

Not that im aware of. Only annoying thing i get is if someone gets to close behind in sliw travel traffic the 360 cameras activate.
I wonder if it was a change in 2024 as it goes off quite noticeably in my wife's A200.

There is no explanation given as to why the camera system needs to do this in the latest models but works perfectly well and is calibrated in the pre-FL models and only requires operation when in actual use.

Hi all

Apparently there is now a fix available for the bug which causes the reversing camera lid to open when you go below 15mph on the facelift cars.

The dealer who dropped off my GLA mentioned it without prompting when we were discussing why the facelift was a retrograde step.
any information on the fix SCN number/ref? I,m pretty sure I get that noise in my 2024 FL A45 but I'm not in country at the moment to check and confirm. Car due service in Oct so will ask, but would be good to have any official ref's to show them.
The noise sounds like a gear changing, but it could well be the camera flap opening and closing. Ill nbeed to get someone to follow me and watch.

It’s worth those of us affected pressing the me button and having a chat about it. I’m also not in the UK at present.
