My car had an engine/gearbox noise sounding like a low muffled rumble/knocking, that occurred when gently accelerating in low gears, especially in Sport mode.
I took the car to a Mercedes dealer to road test and check it and they said there was no problem and it was normal.
The cars annual service became due so I booked it into a different Merc dealer and gave them a list of issues to look at, including the noise.
They said it needed a gearbox software update, which they did. The noise has almost gone. Can't hear it in sport mode now and very occasionally very slightly in BL mode.
Gear changes seem smoother and the car is generally much nicer to drive around town using the engine, battery mode was never an issue.
I was going to sell the car as the noise was irritating, much more than the cabin rattles, but will probably keep it now. So hopefully will stay this way.
