A250e Engine Noise

Hi, I have an A250e saloon (2021 and 55k miles) and when the engine is running, such as in Battery Level mode, in 1/2/3 gears at low revs and accelerating there is a noticeable, but not loud, muffled knocking from the engine /gearbox area.

The car has done this since I bought it from a Mercedes main dealership last year, although I didn’t notice it on the test drive. In electric mode it is smooth and quiet, and when in neutral with engine running, the engine revs nicely. Also cruises nicely without any noise, other than usual wind noise.

I thought it was just a normal interaction between the engine and battery management system, however I am wondering now if it is. Do others have similar noises ?

I’m thinking that “knocking” may be too strong a term, it’s more of a rumble.

Hi, does it sound like the engine would be diesel type? I have myself noticed quite loud noise in lower gears. Some kind of "roaring". I have had 250e hatchback ca. two weeks (2023 model) and this sound has been bothering me.

Yes it does sound like a muffled Diesel. It is more noticeable in Sport mode. I may take it to the Merc dealer and get a diagnostics done to see if there is anything wrong.

Took the car out with a Merc mechanic who said the noises are normal. As are the rattles in the cabin. There are things I like about this car, such as the interior, but there are things I don't, such as the noises.
