Hi all,

2014 A45 with 52k miles.
On 3 occasions over the past 3 weeks I’ve had an issue with the car jolting/kangaroo jumping when accelerating, twice on heavy acceleration and once with moderate acceleration. After it’s jolted for a few seconds I have power loss and the revs are stuck around 2/3k Rpm. Untill I stop and restart the engine or if I wait about 5-10 seconds it figures itself out and goes back to normal. I don’t have an engine light either.

I’ve read a lot online about people having similar issues and it being caused by the crankshaft position sensor, I have it booked into a local merc specialist on Friday, but wondered if you guys thought the symptoms are related to a faulty sensor.

100% crankshaft sensor. I had a Merc dealership check it out, but as you say theres no fault codes and sods law it doesnt happen when they road test it.

i had ours changed at my local specialist and it hasn't happened since

Yeah, can’t justify mercs charges for hourly rate and diagnosis and like you said probs wouldn’t happen when they test it, so getting a local specialist to sort. I’m pretty confident it’s that sensor.

Had to let a BMW 135i get the better of me off the lights earlier as didn’t want to risk the embarrassment of my car jumping around the road 🤣.
