I ordered my A250e (AMG line, Premium Plus, Driving Assistance Package) in September 2020, and it was delivered on 11th January 2021. It arrived in the UK on Christmas Eve, so no nasty Brexit-related surprises, although in the end there weren't any.
Anyway, day 1 and the wife wanted to see it park itself without me touching anything. "Sure," I said, "watch this!" I knew how to do it, I'd played with the demonstrator, watched countless videos, MBUK official, and You Tube, and spent many a lock-down evening devouring the online handbook during the four-month waiting period.
I drove down the road, with lots of parking spaces - nothing! To cut a long story short, the car recognises and will park in spaces perpendicular to the direction of travel, but won't even detect parallel parking spaces, let alone park in them!
My local dealer initially told me I didn't know how to work the system, but after I persuaded them otherwise, they were flummoxed. All their sales people said it should do it, and the workshop had the car for three days before they came back and said the car was insisting it had no faults.
It turns out that a change to UN regulations means that MBUK have had to drop the feature. Shame they didn't tell their dealers!
I wrote a letter of complaint to MBUK, which got shunted straight back to my dealer who gave me a reworked version of the original explanation. It doesn't make total sense, because it refers to dropping the feature back to a previous version, but it still reverses into perpendicular spaces, but totally fails to recognise parallel spaces.
Anyway, in the end I probably won't miss the feature much, I just like things I've paid for to work as intended. I got fed up of banging my head against a brick wall and accepted the offer of a free first service. Not much compensation really, but it's not the dealer's fault, it's MBUK.
Anyone else come across this?
