Hi all,

Hoping someone can at least point me in the right direction. I have recently been having an issue that has progressively been getting more frequent where I try and start the car but get "depress clutch before starting engine". If I turn the ignition back off and try a few more times it then usually starts.

I had someone tell me that it's a micro switch just behind the clutch pedal wearing out? Has anyone else come across this and was this the issue? If it is, is this an easy job or larger one?

Car is 16 plate W176 Diesel if that helps.

Sorry if I have put the wrong terminology / part names.

Thanks

Hello.
Thankfully I don´t have the experience but I red somewhere about problems with the harness of the upper clutch sensor. It worth checking.
The clutch pedal has an upper and a lower sensor. I wouldn´t say they are switches. They probably are capacitive or inductive sensors, so they are not prone to failure. They also do, but are much more reliable.
In the end, pls share with us the outcome.
