Mercedes EQA and EQB vehicles with the larger 70.5 kWh battery (66.5 kWh was installed as standard) will receive an update to the battery management system (BMS) due to a fire hazard.
The production period of the affected EQA and EQB models is between December 13, 2021, and January 24, 2024.
33,705 EQA and EQB models are affected worldwide.
This includes approximately 3,119 models in Germany and 7,362 in the USA.
The 70.5 kWh battery (73.5 kWh gross) is manufactured by Farasis. It is not known whether a different cell supplier will be used from January 24, 2024.
Between December 13, 2021 and January 24, 2024, two models with the 70.5 kWh battery were manufactured in Germany:
EQA 250+ and the EQB 250+.
Mercedes has now written to customers of the above-mentioned vehicles, asking them to make a workshop appointment for the battery management system update.
The solution in the new BMS provides for reduced charging power and a lower net battery capacity.
