My A250 is in the dealer today for its "B" service, now it's two years old. Last year they said they'd do the latest software updates during the service, but didn't -- though agreed to book the car in separately to do that. Pandemic cancelled that. Today, of course, the rhetoric being spouted was that there'd be no updates unless I could specifically cite issues they knew had been fixed in a newer software update. They said "it's not a mobile phone that gets regular updates automatically". I pointed out a few issues (black instrument screen randomly, among others) and they said they'd look into it. I'll get a call later today to find out.

And therein lies the problem I think for the traditional car makers -- they need to evolve into the new world. If they insist on installing vast gobs of tech into their cars, they need to support and supply bug-fixes at the very least without it being a massive hassle to get the car to a dealer and fight with them to do it. OTA updates should be a core service in the first release. My LR Discovery gets OTA updates at least 4 times a year, I've seen annoying bugs get fixed quite regularly. They even added CarPlay and Android Auto via an OTA update, for free, last year. Of course, this is JLR -- not exactly renown for the quality of their electrics and software, so there are still issues and bugs -- but I feel happier knowing I don't have to do anything laborious to (hopefully) get those fixes.

Does anyone know if other cars with MBUX are getting OTA updates these days? Curious if it's just a W177 issue.

Just as a follow-up, I was pleasantly surprised to find they did the service and upgraded the MBUX to FUP3 (as well as updating the driver display which was having "black screen" problems, as requested). I wasn't aware that the MBUX upgrade would wipe ALL settings in MBUX -- profiles, favourites, etc. It was like starting from scratch again, and a bit confusing until I realised that the speedo was in kph not mph...

Anyway, pleased I have the latest updates hoping that fixes a few annoyances I've had since getting the car 2 years ago.
