MBUX - Mobile Phone “Hotspot” / Tethering

Can anyone give me a bit of info on extending the MBUX connectivity to include internet access etc?

There’s an option on my Portal to “Top Up” my data, but I’m not over-keen to just click on it willy nilly without knowing what I’m doing, because the description says:

“If you click on OK, the IMSI of your vehicle's SIM card will be transmitted to the mobile phone service provider. The IMSI (International Mobile Subscriber Identity) is a unique identification number for the SIM card.”

I’m presuming since I can’t browse the web at the moment that my new A180d Sport Auto’s SIM car only provides free mobile data for such functions as Updates, Linguatronics, Navigation, DAB, etc, that anything additional such as full web access requires a TOP UP to the basic data plan?

Alternatively I was wondering if it’s possible to use my iPhone as a Hotspot, to that I can connect the car to, via Bluetooth, and subsequently use the phone’s mobile data plan?

Oh. Ok. So, not cheap then! Lol

Right then, what bits of MBUX don’t function without the additional data plan Topup’s? Seems that features like MBUX updates, Linguatronics, Navigation and Maps, Traffic updates, and the in-car call-up function for SOS and Merc Helpline don’t require additional data, if I’m reading it right? So what does? Browsing the web? What else?

Thanks. One more thing... any clue how to check your data plan/current data usage? I’m leasing my new A180d and I seem to recall something about 3 years free data, but I’m not sure if that was just the Mercedes Connect Services standard thing that comes with all new a-class as general functionality of MBUX, or whether I have additional data planned-in already, as part of the lease deal.

I got these messages when I selected on line music which I haven't seen before.
Does this suggest that you might be able to use different data than their own Vodafone tariff or have I read this wrong?
What version of MBUX are you running?

I’ve heard anecdotally that the dealer installed /083 version (not OTA as yet) allows hotspot/tethering data, but don’t think anyone on this forum has been able to confirm yet.

Just went to check Vodafone internet in the car and now there's no option to buy a bundle so something has changed as I purchased one not to long ago.

There are no available plans in your country
To request a goodwill plan and start using Internet in the Car, please contact our customer support service. We’ll be happy to assist you.

I have exactly the same message. However, the internet in the car is working. I used today internet radio and from 3GB I have left 2.99 GB. Seems that when the 3GB will be used a new good will plan will be activated ? 🤷‍♂️ Will see ....... 😁

Vodafone moved to a new platform a while ago for 'Internet in the Car' and has had issues with its billing system. This has been going on for at least 3 months.
My account still shows my payment option but I am unable to manually add any plan.

You need to contact support who will add a 'Goodwill' 30 day plan. (y)

Following the instructions on that new message that popped up when choosing on line music / tunein radio

I don't seem to have the Comfort data option.
On selecting any of these options, the screen comes up blank (as per below)

Its going in for Service soon so will ask but wondered if anyone else had this?

Looking at your infotainment picture from the app, it seems like you have no data allowance. The 'Internet in the Car' is greyed out and incomplete.

You need to log into your MercedesMeID online here:- Mercedes me

Go to your dashboard and scroll down to ManageDigitalExtras
Then go to Internet in the Car/Top Up Data Volume

You then will be sent to the Vodafone 'Internet in the Car' website
You will need to have an account to log in

At this time Vodafone is having issues with its payment system so you may have to contact them by phone

Logging onto Vodafone, it says that there are no packages available for us right now (UK) and to contact customer service for a good will plan(whatever that is)

What I really want of course is to be able to use my existing data that I already pay for with my phone to operate the online music options. I thought the wording "Data volume for 3rd parties" suggested this could be possible, Im guessing not then

I can confirm that I have 081 software version, and since a recent update, I have successfully tethered MBUX to my phone hotspot via Bluetooth.

I can get Amazon Music via my phone data, and use the in-car MBUX browser (for what good that is).
