My son just took a big gouge out of my rear passenger with a metal ruler sticking out of a hole in his school bag. I tried to give him a new bag yesterday and he refused. I'm so angry.

Does anyone have a recommendation for touch up paint, or should I just go to the dealer? It'll need a respray probably

Feel your pain, I’d have went nuts 😒

I would look to getting a smart repair done rather than trying to touch it in yourself. Chips Away or similar would be able to fix that no problem. I suppose it depends on where you are in the Country, I’m in Yorkshire and can highly recommend Auto Spray Solutions. I’m sure there will be similar near you, just check feedback first.

whats the colour and finish of your car paint , if its Designo Mountain Grey Magno i.e. a satin finish its will be a respray and not a touch up

It looks like Mountain Grey Met to me and not mat. If so, a smart repair specialist would charge about £80. Don’t quote me on that, but I had a rear bumper scratch about 8 inches long repaired on my last car. It was a Magnetic Grey met Focus RS mk3. They had to paint a quarter of the rear bumper and you’d never tell. The match and finish was excellent.

Find out who does this sort of thing in your area and do some research. I used Chips Away as an example, but there’s loads of firms doing this sort of paint repair work now, you only have to look on You Tube.

If there is no dent and only paint damage I would expect at least £400 to redo the single panel. Dealers do not do paint damage, its normally farmed out to specialist . I know two excellent in Shoreham [Brighton] and Horsham, but they are probably too far for you. You could ask your Dealer if they have a recommendation for one on your area.

I would go for a smart repair for such a small scratch. Just go with a mobile repairer who has good testimonials from satisfied customers.

£420 is ridiculous and that’s a quote from someone that simply doesn’t want the work. You could buy a new door for that in colour via flea bay.

Don’t go to body shops, there are loads of mobile scratch repair outfits out there that will do a fantastic job at a reasonable price.

Everything depends on the depth of the scratch. Only the top layer would be cheapish, but if it's down to the metal, then it is not a job for a local repair guy that drives a Van. A full 'Door Respray' would be at least £400.

For some the price might seem high, but in reality it depends who is doing the work, the quality of the work and it's durability. I never believe that cheap is good value. Cheap is only cheap and not an option that I would consider for my Mercedes. I paid £140 for two really small dents on two separate panels, now my car is in showroom condition so for me the price was worth it.
