The “Im thinking of changing my car” thread

I've moved the thread to the W177 part of the forum, from the W176 part, as I think you are referring to the current model and prospective which are both W177.

My first thought is that I personally need a hatch and would find buying a saloon inconvenient. Also what is the headroom like in the back of the CLA.

I just bought an A200 for my wife. It seems to be above 43 mpg with less than 500 miles on the clock. I think that’s reasonable. Most cars have downsized engines these days. The A3 my wife previously had had a 1.5 and that was very good. I think by going for an A200 you are definitely not downgrading. Just the opposite.

I wouldn't mind knowing the MPG of the FL A-Class, as you and I am sure many others do. I have started a new thread so we can find out.

I’ve bought the FL A200 for my wife from her A3. My main gripe is that the brakes are not as good. But it may be the bedding in process still. I also find the missing touch pad next to my A45s which has them, a real pain.

I bought my wife an A200 new April 2024. I like it and its overall economical on a run but the ground clearance for its soft suspension is way too low.

I think you can only go by the MB numbers, which off the top of my head, didn't show a significant difference in MPG or Db. The A200 of my wife's also doesn't seem as fast as her previous A3 2017 with the 1.5L 150 ps engine, manual.

Hi all

My son is looking at an A class. I'm perfectly happy with the power of the A200 and wasn't even aware there was a 220. But he's found once he likes and I'm wondering if anyone here has one and can comment?
My neighbour had an A220. It was a non-Fl with 4matic. While I can’t comment on how it drove the 4matic would be worth having.

Lots of reasons mate.

Main one is the Merc` dealers I interacted with were nothing more than cowboys/shysters.

Got tired of resetting the Mbux every month to get the features to work.

But due to the issues I had when I bought the car, I was never comfortable with it. I`ve had 3 E-300s over the years but this is nothing like a Merc`. Now gone to a Crossover/SUV. Much easier to get into for a old git :) :)
Sorry to hear about your substandard MB experience, and you’ve moved on. But I don’t think it’s usual going by my own experience.

See when you know that the car needs a new battery and you ask the dealer why my eco stop/start doesn`t work, and they tell you "it`s cos you haven`t had the car long and it hasn`t adapted to your driving style"? You just know yer onto plums :) :)
You’re based in Scotland right. Not that that should make any difference. Just interested geographically where you are and the problem dealership.

The Mercedes dealer I used in Leeds was one of the worst dealers I've ever had to deal with, absolutely terrible. Dealt with many main dealers in my time, from Vauxhall, Ford, Land Rover to BMW and Mercedes. Merc will go down in my car history as the worst.
My local MB dealership changed hands earlier this year. I’m keeping an eye on things as the previous owner two owners ago was quite keen to wring extra work out of customers. Hence I moved to a dealership several miles away. The new owners send an advanced check-in email which also includes a bunch of extra cost items, which some people might fall for. But it was also the call I received yesterday after my wife’s car’s first service. “One of the tyres was slightly worn on the inside”. I then watched the video and they were all within 1mm of each other inside and out, front and back 🤷‍♂️

I’ve just sold my a45s, 15,100 miles, and replaced it with a Porsche gts 4.0. I have had a few Porches in the past and all brilliant but this is something else, the ride quality puts the a45s to shame (my only gripe of the a45s)
The a45s was sold in one day, not sure what price but a would think about £42,000 ?.
I really enjoyed the a45s and I will miss it, kept it for 3 years, not a thing went wrong with it, great car.
I don't want to tempt fate but the most serious thing I've had go wrong was the driver seat. Where they replaced the cover for a 90% GW gesture. But I am always vigilant about the MB dealerships as they can be prone to thinking MB owners have deep pockets. Which maybe accurate but nobody wants to throw money away.

I imagine the idiotic tariffs have put an end to that, for now. Good thing she bought hers before they kicked in.
MB and BMW build in the US and BMW supply the world with US built X3s.

when slamming the door. The A-Class had more of a "dink", like a Civic or Corolla
You know that they are among the most reliable cars in the world. If the A Class proves as reliable I would forgo any weighty thud for that 😁

Completely through me earlier today. Parked at the supermarket car park. Waiting for my wife. Guy appears next to the car. “Is that a Mercedes A Class” I answered yes. “I’m thinking of getting one. Are the tyres inflated properly” 🤷‍♂️ Very strange encounter but people thinking of going to MB. Although I don’t know what he currently has.
