This is just rehashing what we knew 3 months ago as we can see in the thread. It would be good to know dates and £££s. €60K on Zash's post sounds about right. What will the full fat performance version cost especially in the UK.

If we don't get a decent power increase option from Brabus or even MB the RS3 performance might get a look from me. It would be the first time since 2002 that I won't have an MB.

These are the calibre of forum posts you and I would have to put up with. Laughable comparing an A200 to an RS3 then about the drag race "at least the RS3 won the braking" They certainly aren't FT readers. RS3 v A45s v M2 comp v Golf R

I was looking for this tread when I saw the latest spate of RS3 articles.

They don't seem to take the story on much more than the articles a year earlier I thought. If the RS3 keeps it's weight as it is in the S3, which with with and extra cylinder may not be possible, and the engine does a Golf R. Where VW say 415 bhp but really mean 450 bhp then that will make the RS3 quicker than our A45s in a straight line. But hopefully MB will quickly counter that, either in the FL version or just do a Tesla and increase the A45s' power and torque.

I'm quite surprised that Audi aren't lifting the power to really drive home that the car is quicker than the A45s, which in turn would mean we get a faster FL A45s. But Audi no doubt need to keep the RS3 in its place in the pecking order so that the RS4 and RS6 are not out sprinted by it.

The outgoing model was closer to 3.9 than 4.1 so it didn't really gain 3 tenths, maybe a tenth. You see greater gains with stickier tires. You could easily gain a tenth with a better launch on the same tires!

I'd be a little disappointed knowing my long-awaited RS3 won't be getting the rumored 420 ps (and something like 450 ps with an optional performance pack iirc) after all. If they meant to copy Honda when they launched the FN2 Type R that brought an astonishing +1 hp over EP3, they're doing really well. There are more things than hp, for sure, but come on, power is the first and most important thing we look at in a new sports car. Among the things that shout "progress", power will always stand out. And no, +20 ps wouldn't have made a huge difference (+50 ps would though, and I'm pretty sure you'd be hard pressed to find a car without the performance pack), but it's the kind of progress every enthusiast is expecting.

In all honesty, even if I ever planned to buy one, knowing it'll still make the same power, would be enough of a reason to reconsider. Clearly they wanted to keep it below RS4 as @Forrester said, and it's nice to know MB don't think the same way, or at least their pecking order isn't that strict.

We get to keep our bragging rights too. Thank you Audi.

None of the RS3 information is available on the Audi website even though it shows RS3 as an option.

I think the proposed RS3 looks a lot better than the outgoing one.

In Aus the current version has staggered wheels with the front wider than the back for traction. Even Audi consider it predominantly a front wheeler. Still the RS guys claim a 10sec car with tune and dump pipe.
Proper rear biased awd system wil see times tumble, like the vast improvement in the Golf R. Launch control as well.
Power and potential of the 5 cylinder is enough. The lighter block was a big step forward. It needs to improve in other areas.

The big deal they make of the cylinder firing order is entertaining.

BMW: Wait until they get a load of the grill we've designed for the new M3...
Audi: Hold my beer... ;)

It's priced directly at the A45s. But out of all seriousness I can't bring myself to click that request a call back tab, with the A45s I already have.

Aesthetically, which so far is the only department I can talk about, the only thing I like more than the A45s is its carbon ceramic 380mm disc option, though they could've gone the extra mile of adding an 8 piston caliper. They could've also upgraded the rear brakes with carbon ceramics, but not only did they not, they also kept same old 310's that look tiny compared to the fronts. Audi cheaped out there. As for everything else, including interior, I find the A45s is miles ahead, while performance remains to be seen. I'm sure carwow will arrange a drag race sooner or later.

Power wise, there really isn't much room for the RS3, as it can't be near RS4 territory and as I've already said, I'm glad MB's pecking order isn't that strict. So the best they could've done was just catch up. Impressive they have allegedly pulled that off without a power increase, but let me take this with a grain of salt until that drag race actually takes place.

I also wanna see how it sounds, as it's been rumored it won't sound nearly as good as pre-opf generations. Should still sound better than the A45s, but that also remains to be seen. I don't like judging from things I'm not yet aware of.
