0-1000 miles - how long are people taking?

I think this is really bad, but I picked up my car on the 18th of September and 4 weeks on I am up to 920 or so miles.

I have had the dreaded man flu which seemed to drag on a bit as an excuse. I have done a trip to the NEC from leic for a paint show, one run to drop the other half's mate off in Hinckley and then took it to drive up the new A46 towards Newark the other day just to add about 50 miles. Other than that the runs have been my daily work commute which is around 20 miles. With the darker nights and not being able to use the car properly I have found any long run a bit of a bore.
I just wondered what time other people were doing with their motors, are people off on special drives to clock up the miles etc.

I hit 1000 within 3 weeks but only because I took it on 2 long journeys both approx 300 miles. Was a major pain though having to drive like a pensioner, not going above 70 mph or 2000 rpm. Now I've got the opposite problem. Have done just under 3000 miles in 3 months but get penalised if I do more than 10000 per year by the lease company. Would normally only cover 8000 miles per year. Let's hope the novelty of taking it everywhere wears off soon !.

I am running in my A45 at the moment. I keep it on comfort most of the time but if there is an open stretch of road I will put it in manual and under light to medium load rev to 4k and change. This keeps the rev range variedavoiding the engine bedding in at a fixed rpm, for example if you were doing motorway driving.
326 miles and counting. God that performance exhaust sounds good in manual!

Hey ARM. That's not too bad especially if you haven't been able to use it too much. I got mine on the 30th of September, and I've got to 905. Soo it's taking time for me too and I don't use mine for a daily commute. So I have been going on random drives around the countryside.

Just hoping I can get a dry day to give the launch control a go before the year is out. But really like you said now it's getting darker so will the rubbish weather will come. I'd just say use every dry day you possible can, that's what I'm doing.

Must admit though was more on the wet side yesterday and the car just grips. Soo, even if it is slightly wet the car for me gives the confidence to still drive it like I stole it.

<div sab="848">Only 2000 rpm? It does say on the sticker you can rev to 4500 rpm but notunder heavy load. I would have thought being so gentle would be detrimental to the bedding in of the engine.

Hi all, I had my car in April and have already done more than my annual mileage! I have done several "long" runs which I normally don't do. Cardiff to the Cotswolds and Bognor Regis, plus going the long way back home! I also hope that the novelty will wear off, (not really), I am spending twice as much in petrol this year!

A very small price to pay on such a fabulous car!

Ignore me, if this thread is only for A45!

Ditto... That's just ridiculous IMO. I shall be generally taking it steady during the first 600-1000 miles when mine arrives, but it will be getting varied throttle over that mileage which will be anything from driving Miss Daisey to the occasional full throttle blat.
I have my cars 3 years at a time and cover around 80-100k over that time. All have had the same run in method and all have (touch wood) been faultless. Not only that but they all seem to be very quick examples compared with others on the 1/4 mile strip.

Yup varying the revs and load important for a proper run in. No good just going on a 1000 mile motorway cruise at the same rpm. If you are going to do that might as well just thrash it from the start! Also important not to thrash from cold (goes for any car during run in or after). Saying that I know people who have thrashed cars from mile 1, no run in at all and no warm up, and many years and miles down the road no issues at all (car is an RS4). Not my style doing that but each to their own.

My AMG A45 'should' arrive next week - I'll report back on how my run-in goes and if I manage to stick to the rules.

mine has been a bit of everything, motorway, dual carriage way, the dreaded rush hour commute at an average of 14mph.
I might head up the A46 again tonight, and use the b roads to come back and hopefully be ready to let rip at the weekend once I have the Tigers match out of the way tomorrow night.

should give me a few days of fun before I head off for some sun in crete for a week.

I have the darker grey option, pan roof, red calipers, black alloys, sports exhaust, sports seats with heat and electrics, Harman karman, lights I think that's about it.
I have pics but only on my phone, I need to join somewhere to upload them tbh.

now the A46 is a dual carriage way I might make it that far, I couldn't get over how nice a road it now is compared to the single track queue there was before.

how about you, what do you have?

I have a White 135i Coupe at the minute and the A45 on the order.

You need to get some pics up pronto mate as you have my exact spec pretty much

Oh and yes, the 46 is mint since the dual carriageway has been done.

Mines the same but silver wheel.
wanted the black but am happy with what I got

I picked my car up from a dealer 200 km away from home and drove a dual highway at variable high speed but regularly changed down and tried to run higher revs.My normal commute is only a few km and not good to run an engine in so fortunately had a 600 km round trip with similar conditions and driving style on the following weekend.
Now have 2500 km after 2.5 wks but this is not my normal mileage.
The response now is markedly different but I have not had the change to give it some through some twisties.
Best opportunity was through the backroads of Byron Bay and Nimbin on the NSW north coast but we had a double demerits/fines weekend.

My wife picked hers up on 20th September, and it's now done 1500 in less than a month. I will be putting another 250 on it this weekend, while she's on holiday.

In that time the revs have been above 2K roughly 4 times, even then I don't think it managed 3K revs.

As said before, being so tame with the engine does not aid a run in process. You need to open it up not constrict it.

lol hopefully if there enough people in the area we could go try a meet up at some point!
hit 950 last night, as with every Friday I finish at 2, the joy of engineering, and shall take the motor for a little run before watching the Leicester tigers tonight and planning a good drive over the weekend!

An observation. I always notices when I got courtesy cars from Audi they had always been driven very carefully by the staff to save fuel. Once I drove them after about 100 miles they loosen up. It really does go to show the car will producedmore power once pushed harder.

Hit the big mark last night! Great fun the sound in manual is mad it reminds me of a wrc car on gear change, and the grip on the twisties is excellent very reminiscent of the Subaru. It's like 2cars, comfort for the commute and the rest for pure grin factor.
