Getting the alert on Mercedes Me that my battery is low, probably because I haven’t been out on a long trip for a couple of weeks
Did a short one and noticed stop/start was working
Guess it is a case of too much information

I have an A200 sport 68 plate, about a week ago I started to get a message on the dash saying 12 volt battery see user manual, spoken to Mercedes me who advised me to leave the car running for about half an hour, next day happened again and then also had a message saying to stop the vehicle and leave running, did that also, the stop start function was also not working at this point, went to the car on Monday and it would not start, roadside attended and got the car going, I went to the dealership and was told this has happened because apparently I don't drive the car enough, granted I have only done 5000 miles in the car but it is still used every day, roadside said the battery was charging fine and had enough charge in it and he was not sure why the 12v battery sign was appearing on the dash. I'm going to pick the car up later on today but have been told they have charged up the battery for me, I personally don't think that is the issue but will see what happens, has anyone else had anything like this happen?

its at the dealership still, they called me to collect it on Monday saying it was fixed, however when I arrived the car wouldn't start, they called me today with an update saying they had charged the battery fully and went to start the car this morning and a warning notice came up saying to stop the vehicle and leave running, they have had it on the diagnostic machine and no fault codes are registering so they are stumped as to what it could be.

So this morning I get a call from the dealership saying the car was ready to pick up, I asked what had they done, she said charges the battery, I asked anything else and she said no, I explained to her what issues the car was having and she told me that the technician was left a post it note to tell him to charge the battery and send it out, I can not believe how terrible the service is so far, anyway I have told them I will be keeping the loan car they have let me use until they have fixed this issue for as long as it takes and they also need to test everything before I take it back. Worse this is that 3 hours after they called to say I could have it back I get an email from Mercedes me saying the battery level is critical so clearly it’s not fixed. Will see what happens next week. Not happy!!!

Update, so the dealership called again today to say the car was ready, I asked what had they done to it and they said they had replaced the battery, been to pick it up and have driven 9 miles in traffic, everything seems fine now, stop start works ok so hopefully it was just something simple. Will see what happens in the next few days.

I had the same issue, then eventually I was getting a battery critical message every two days. The car sits for two weeks when I am at work. Had to get the wife to turn it over every two days to charge it again. I booked it into Mercedes and they said the battery had a fault and replaced it under warranty. Been fine since then [emoji1696]

As a recent convert to the start/stop system (I initially hated it on all cars) I often wonder if that would affect the starter battery, ie.a battery only has a finite number of charge/discharge cycles & the start/stop system makes heavier use of the starter battery.

I wonder if the people with battery issues on this thread make regular use of the start/stop system. It would be interesting to know.

New MercedesMe app... just installed and it says “battery partially charged” like some others have commented. This is just since yesterday. Old app has always said “Battery Charged”. Coincidence that battery has depleted to errrr whatever degree “partially” means, just at the same time as I switched apps? ?

i'm here in Canada, i didn't have new MercedesMe app so far, and i got the battery changer connected all the time actually, and this morning, after parking for 5.5 days, app says "battery partially charged" i went checked my Ctek changer, and it's showing step 7 ( green, means battery is full ), by the way, we did lost power about 4 days ago, i don't know if that will affect the charger or not. and now i have re-started the charger, see if that "battery partially charged" will turn to full or not

a-ho... have you update your MercedesMe app ? get a voltage meter to test the voltage of battery. i tested after about 30min drive, i got 12.4v, but when i connected my charger, the voltage gose to 12.85, which is very good, from now on, i need to keep it connect it. otherwise, battery might become bad after 3-4 years

I received the same warning from the new Mercedes app, it said to either charge or go for a drive if at least 30mins.
Due to poor health I hadn’t driven the car for several weeks so assumed it was that but checked with dealer and they said it was due to the car not being driven.
After getting home following a longish drive the App is now showing the battery is fine.

I have never had this issue with my previous Golfs with similar driving patterns as I work from home but will see how it goes.

Low battery indicators on app also an issue for me with C63s and A35. Bought a charger to top both up as app showing they need it if I don’t do a long drive each forthright. When new, both batteries were only charged to around 25 percent and needed to be charged overnight to get back to full charge. With lots of things using the battery when it is not running, load is running batteríes down much faster than my previous cars. Ok now with the charger, just something else to look out for. Expect to have to charge them after a few weeks of sitting idle, and you won’t get caught out again. First C63s battery was faulty and replaced under warranty as would not hold a charge properly according to the dealership.

I made some interesting observations recently. Ever since I've owned my A250 (7 months) the battery gauge has shown 12+ volts when driving but 14+ volts when coasting (this is when the alternator is giving a higher voltage). From what I had read about these new fangle dangle charging systems this seemed to be right. Recently I got the battery voltage critical warning so charged the battery with my CTEK over night, now I have 14.1 to 14.5 volts under normal driving and up to 14.9 volts when coasting so it will be interesting to see what happens when (if) I do a bit of stop/start town driving again.

Mine was showing partially charged on the app, just taken it for a 30 minute 14 mile run
The display showed 14.8 up 14.9 coasting.
Now shows charged on app, but I know if I do a 1 mile Tesco run it will be back to Partially Charged, going to have to go the long way round!
I’ve previously left it and other cars at airport car parks for 15 days and never had a battery problem, but I would advise leaving the handbrake off

I asked MB CS a couple of questions the other day and they have just got back to me:

1. How long should an A Class battery stay charged if the car is unused A. Don't know

2. What is the minimum voltage at which the car will start. A Don't know

3. Does the car enter a standby state when its critical voltage is reached A Don't know.

4. If the battery drains in three weeks or less how would you keep it charged at say an airport A. Use a trickle charger.

I pointed out that there is no power at car parks which flummoxed him

The chap apologised that he didn't have the technical knowledge to answer these questions but would pass it to the technical dept but didn't think they would know how long a car could be parked with a fully charged battery, I pointed out that it was a fairly easy calculation, Amp Hours of the battery divided by amps per hour used, not hard really
