Anyone any idea of the capability the a35 engine will take and if it’s used in any other Mercedes amg models? If so what are they running with what engine mods? Mines is currently running 380bhp/520nm, but booked in for stage 2 with further modifications being completed as we speak. just don’t want to be running the engine on the limits as I’m guessing it’ll be a bit into the 400s

380bhp/520nm... WOW!!!

Have you timed your 0-62mph? How much faster is it than stock?

I'd recommend watching the video about the engine for the new A45 and everything they did to strengthen it so that it could handle over 400bhp. Then remember that the A35 engine doesn't have any of that. They also used a different gearbox for the A45, so there's no guarantee that the drivetrain could handle >400bhp. Or it could be fine, who knows?!

I know a lot of Golf R’s tuned up towards 400 had clutch slip problems with the DSG boxes. I didn’t get chance to find out as my stage 1 R tuned to 368 bhp blew after 5 days resulting in new engine, turbo and cat. All done on warranty as they didn’t pick up on tune ??? total cost was over £12,000.

Most of the big tuners also did tcu flashes that helped a lot. I’d heard more issues with manual clutches slipping with extra power. There’s a few 600hp golfs around running stock transmissions, pretty sure revo advertises their software and hardware at over 500 bhp with nothing other than a tcu flash on the day.

Not that I can see. I've been talking to Akrapovich & Super Sprint about their systems. While they make a link pipe to replace the gpf, both are stating it's for 'Track use only' and won't pass an MOT. In regards warranty issues, this should be fine though unless it'd deemed the exhaust was the cause.
I'm weighing up whether to go with this and replace in 3 years or be sensible and just go from the gpf back.

Had an update on the car today,

it made 401.8bhp and 541nm of torque
Wow! That's a serious power hike! So a decat, gpf removal and a stage 2 tune?

Nice to see people modifying them already.

In terms of 'is this safe' - nobody knows as its a new platform. New things are still being discovered on the old 45 platform.

@J80LLK would you mind if I asked how much your setup cost? Alternatively tell me to bog off if I’m being too intrusive... ?

Just shy of £3000 for the power gain mods and software. The software was 1/3rd of the total so when you think of it just under 100bhp over standard quoted figures for that amounts very good, have seen myself in the past spending around that total to only achieve 20-30bhp

I wonder how much that cost. Depending upon the details I wonder why they didn't use an A45s as a base.

Hey @J80LLK - good work with your tunes! Still going ok?

I have had my A35 mapped today with stock car, my figures are 388bhp / 440ft lbs and like you say it’s like a different car and it handles the power fine.

Have you done anything to the gearbox? As part of your map did they change anything within the gearbox?

The reason I ask is mine seems (and I’ve only done 20 miles since the map so going to do some more miles) to be very slow changing down the gears and in comfort a small delay when changing up. Doesn’t seem to happen in S+. It might be me but thought I would ask.

So... 10 days after the Stage1 Map - I can't seem to get the car to replicate the "lag" / "over rev" which was happening on my journey home?

I have been back in contact with MSL who have been very helpful and I have also since driven a stock car and the gear changes seem to be near the same..

I was concerned at the time but not so much now, the car seems to be driving fine.

Jumping on this old thread as ive just purchased Joes stage 2 A35.

Question I have is how much boost this is likely to be running so i can set the methanol correct (has 2 knobs, first you set to 25% of boost and second you set to max boost).

Struggling to find anything on how much boost the A35 would have as standard and what this is likely to be running.

Anyone have an idea (Joe not been on this for a while as ive tried to contact him)
