I change the battery last week still "good" the OEM was a VARTA with 69% SOH and 98% SOC but in the app always say: parcialy charged.

So i changed the battery and all perfect didnt have any problems before but for 140$ easy thing to do. and the most important provably is put the SAM on 0Ah to start with the new battery.

The MB battery is something like £400. Is that correct.

I was getting the partly charged sign too but in the warm/hot weather it's completely transformed and behaves like new. The start/stop works from the start etc. So we'll see how winter goes.

I disabled Start&Stop with CODING and i bought a Hankook Battery 80Ah/800A (same as OEM) for: £121 and i change it myself. And how i said have to use xentry to put 0 the SAM o IBC (the sensor of battery life the one is sending the power (alternator to battery) for charge.

It should come virtually fully charged from a reputable supplier, they are supposed to periodically check the voltage and give them a charge if needed. Certainly enough charge to start the engine and drive off, although Auto Start/Stop may take a while to start working. With how some here say 'smart' charging works and with the car crying 'wolf' at the drop of a hat saying the battery is 'discharged' or 'critical' it may take some time for the car to fully charge it depending on usage. Mine's been giving warnings due to low usage for virtually the whole time I've had it but never failed to start.

I too would have thought it would have come fully charged too. Certainly back in the day when I did my on diy on the various old bangers I had they did. But in any case a good run should sort out any charge deficit.

I need to change my battery, I have an A class 180d late 2018 and I am wondering what battery should I buy, preferably original MB thanks!
Got mine replaced at Mercedes, it wasn't that expensive..
All you have to ask for is a price to get it replaced and nothing else.
When my start/stop didn't work, they first tested my battery and it had to be changed. The price of getting it tested cost the same as just getting a new one, so don't understand why they had to test it..

I got a little mad so they offered 20% off the whole bill.
If you get it replaced in connection with service, you can probably get it replaced a bit cheaper.

How old is the 12v battery?
If it is 2020 as in the first post. That seems to be the sweet spot for our batteries playing up. Mine being a 2020 model is still showing partially charged on the app, even after using a charger and going on a 50+ miles motorway run.

Out of interest anyone know what MB will charge to replace it. Around £480?

DIY the cost should be about ~£150
Having lifted the cover and charged the battery I am sure I could change it as I used to before getting MBs. But how do you do the coding?

Even though I've charged my battery twice and done more miles than usual on the motorway, and even more due before Christmas, I cannot get the partially charged sign on the MMe app to go off and hence the start/stop won't work.

Anyway I found the Varta battery MB use for the A45s on Amazon, £190.02. I also called my local MB garage and they went away and came back with the MB battery price, £420 fitted. I said to them about the Amazon price and they said they will price match it. But £175 fitting and coding on top. So quite a drop overall and I have asked them to note all the details down for when I book my car in for its service and MOT in Feb/Mar.

I have to say I had never heard of MB doing a price match before. But worth remembering.

Unfortunately steady state driving on the motorway does not invoke the final 20% charging from the “smart alternator”. The best pattern of driving is one that involves over-run and braking.

Steady state motorway driving only tends to charge the battery up to 80% of the SOH, and it does sound that your battery SOH is down anyway.

I have said that to my wife but she won't buy it 🤷‍♂️

While I prefer to use MB garages and their OE parts I was wondering about a battery change using Halfords to get it done quickly before my March service.

Anyone know about them and this battery:

I had replaced the car battery on my 2019 W177 as soon as I got it in 2021 - the car would never go into start and stop - noticed that the alternator would produce enough voltage for it to go to 14.8v; although taking a multimeter in the early morning without the car on showed about 11v.

Originally, I thought it was the internal centre console auxiliary battery, but that was fine - until I measured the main starter battery.

I remember going to Costco three years ago, purchased a Bosch S5 A11 - to this day, even without using the car for many weeks - the start stop works instantly. I did perform a battery registration to the SOC a few months later but before the times of using Xentry, the car instantly detected a new state of health itself.

If I recall - most of the car battery brands like Bosch/Varta are manufactured by the same manufacturer, can't remember who. The Yuasa is a great brand too. Was shocked that my MB was an Exide battery that did not last 3 years but there are all sorts of tech running, presumably the later FreshUp updates optimise the battery idling situations of all the infotainment.

I prefer Costco's no quibble returns policy, just send it back whenever there's a problem - unlike ECP, I can only think they would honour the warranty.

It is a pain in the arse to change, not like the typical battery, has all sorts of cabling connected - so can understand taking it to a garage to do. I did follow a Youtube tutorial step by step.

Thank you for this. I watched an YouTube video on changing the battery and whereas I was fairly confident before of changing it myself I’m not sure after seeing it.

It isn't too bad tbf, it's just not as easy as the older cars which pop in and out without tearing apart a lot of the top. I watched this one a while back.

I had to make some contraption of extensions to get to the 8mm bolt on the side. Just the stuff on the side of the battery is quite messy.

I was checking the WIS, it turns out the Front SAM module will tell you in Xentry if the battery just needs charging or if it requires a new battery.

Apparently, in the removal of the battery documentation (AR54.10-P-0005MFA doc version; 22.07.2020), there is a comment:

Scan QR code on on-board electrical system battery(G1), confirm change of on-board battery (G1) using diagnostic system and fill out test log.

Non-observance will lead to an incorrect or not accurate charging characteristic.
As a result, the on-board electrical system battery (G1) may be damaged.
So it does seem the battery registration is important to make sure the SOH is not overcharging the new battery as it still appears as a old battery to the car (for certain nobody is doing this outside of MB, I did notice originally the start/stop working perfectly without doing this). It's maybe why my now close to 4-year old battery is still working fine :p

When I did this step months after the replacement, it did not ask me to a scan the data matrix code - although I am using offline Xentry software to begin with :giggle:
