Exhaust Mods/Upgrades

Ok wait so there's four components that affect the exhaust sound? The cat, OPF, muffler and resonator?

Lol I reckon they will know if the OPF has come out. Warranty is a grey area ... is the OPF after the engine? If so physically removing it can't really affect the warranty of the engine (which is the important part). Any exhaust mods I've heard only affect the warranty of the exhaust but not the car or engine. But if they find out you messed with the ECU then that'll void the warranty on the engine I reckon.

I think the real issue is it's also against the law and will void the insurance. But yellow van man Irish boy is at least being our guinea pig on this. Hopefully the police have bigger fish to fry.

Forester you should have bought a donkey and kart instead of the A45S
you break the law every time your out in your car
what’s the difference in robbing a bank a taking 1M or 28million
Can’t believe it. Less than 1100 miles and found a f... nail in one of the rear tyres and the tyre shop can’t repair it. I‘ve been to see them with the car. A new tyre on order for Monday replacement. I was going to go cruising in it at the weekend under our more relaxed lockdown rules.

Just a nail magnet and I don’t really want anyone else fiddling with my car when they go to change tyres.

Sorry to hear that forester how much u paying for the new tyre ? Pm me and might be able to help u get it cheaper
It’s not so much the cost it’s the disruption of my plans. They said they tried taking the nail out and air started leaking but checking my app now and again it hasn’t lost a single psi. I might take some tools along to the garage and when there take the nail out just to make sure.

get them to stick a patch or two on the inside when they pull the nail out be a grand job
i i think I got my Tyres £140 each vat included for the Michelin ps4s
Yes I went for a puncture repair they said it was too close to the wall. £174 on etyres but its being done at a recommended tyre shop in my town.

Insert media. It appears in a drop down after the emoji by clicking the dotted lines.

anybody been in touch with company in Poland TG motorsport who-make the three own exhaust ?
No but have you tried our friend on the gen one A45 part of the forum.

Strange experience. Checked my air today. Behind me was a 911, didn't clock the year but non-turbo and not current gen. He'd just been in the petrol station shop taking up space at the airline. He came out and started revving his engine while I was doing my tyres. It didn't sound all that tuneful either just loud but I bit my tongue and didn't shout out anything like "have you got a small dick". What a prat.

While our A45s exhausts may have been muted at least our cars are full fat and can take out past gen 911s as well as carry the kids and the weekly shop.

In addition to the emotional start discussion, which will also impact any exhaust mod. I've noticed if I leave the car for say half an hour and then restart it with a paddle held down the emotional start doesn't quite often happen even though the engine and gearbox temperatures are both in the white. Have others noticed this.

The main place where the emotional start works fine is at petrol stations.

On A45S, Emotion start will time out after 10min! It has nothing to do with engine and gearbox temp over 70/50° C. You can drive around for 5min emotion start still works. Whereas, on my E63S and my mate's C63S it works all the time.
Thanks for that. Another thing I've learnt about my A45s.

I wouldn't be surprised if MB can tell real time that the ECU coding has been changed.

Hi everyone, this is Lino from Italy, I installed full ARMYTRIX exhaust sytem (200 cells downpipe ) and it is very loudly! I think too much loudly when open two valves...
Hello and welcome.

Please do post a video of the sound when you get the chance.

It sounds like a totally different car. Unmuzzled.

A45S reg: ***70AMG

Same problem: Screw in front n'side tyre on a Friday at 1900 miles : No spare and local Merc dealer had no 19" pilotsports my size in stock so recovery truck and 3 days off road for repair. Upside: Merc dealer arranged FREE courtesy car for 3 days through Europcar:

ECU upgrade issue: tempting but don't, at least not until warranty expires. Mercedes WILL invalidate engine warranty if you get problems: Emailed Mercedes UK Milton Keynes and their line is that an ECU upgrade fundamentally changes engine dynamics and therefore they will not be held responsible if ANY part of engine itself malfunctions. PERIOD. You could argue your case in court against them but you would lose.. Is it worth risking a £57k + car for just a few extra horses which in all probability you will hardly ever be able to use to its full extent. After 3 years.. do what you like...

The puncture is just such a pain. Glad it's sorted.

The Brabus tune I had on my original A45 came as a separate module and MB didn't even question it when they had to replace the turbo. I had to point it out to them as I didn't want the box to be disconnected by accident. So a separate box is probably worth considering.

Welcome to the forum. Hopefully @Turbo Ed and @fatty45 will get back to you on your questions. @Turbo Ed is currently in communications blackout which will be lifted in the next couple of weeks, when he’s back in Australia.

Thanks veeeight that’s put my mind at rest. I’ll update the continuous running fan thread (and this one) after the dealer visit next week.

So far (two months ownership) this 2022 car has proven to be a challenge. I’ve had the full house of “they all do that” problems from rattling seatbelts (against the side panel), a recall for something to be replaced underneath at the rear end (unspecified in the paperwork), a carboned up exhaust flap at the rear and now these two coolant related issues. I’m getting my money out of the remaining Mercedes warranty on the vehicle.

In comparison my previous A45 (2016) bought from new had no issues and sounded much more like an AMG than this facelift “S” with more bhp.

it’s off to cobrasport tomorrow as a test vehicle for a venom system. To see what differences are underneath the A45 and GLA45. Hopefully it will come back sounding more AMG like. Although I’m sticking with keeping the down pipe while it’s under warranty, and they’ve warned me most of the crackle won’t be unleashed until this is replaced and it’s remapped at a later date. Admiral were a reasonable £13 extra for exhaust mods for the remaining 6 months of the policy.

Sorry for the ramble. It’s good to be in contact with people who know these vehicles and offer help. The local main dealer hasn’t exactly been supportive since my return to Mercedes ownership. Every problem I’ve had with the car is a known one and yet I’ve had to force their hand and guide the diagnosis under threat of £200 if no fault found.
From what you say about your car being a test vehicle I'm guessing its done some hard miles in the two months. What's your mileage overall.

Hi Theo,

Thanks for the comprehensive response. I had no doubt there's a great sounding 4pot in there somewhere, but as you said the GPF ruins it.

My warranty runs for another 15 months so I need to factor that in. If it was out of warranty, and I had the cash at my disposal then I'd have a turbo back system tomorrow.

I was just curious if I was missing a trick and if there was a warranty friendly way of extracting some more emotion out of it for now.
We were under the impression in the early days that you could at least get rid of the piped sound using the dealer menu but that turned out not to work and I think its Theo's way or putting up with the way it is externally.

Afternoon,

Does anyone know if it is possible to buy a factory Catalytic converter from the non OPF model and if it would directly fit the UK model?

I know it would cost more than aftermarket but I think it's an easy way to get rid of the OPF without a tune.

Would also need this: XPF Emulator | Seletron
Hopefully @Theo sees your question. He should be able to answer it.
