2. Km when this started and error messages if any
3. Whether run in instructions were followed
4. What's been done to fix it

Honestly think we need to follow this like we did with the turbo issues in the early days but it's up to you FL guys to show up and post accordingly

I took delivery of my FL at the start of December so I suppose the build date was Nov 15 and I have the grinding noise often... Usually whenever I go from park (cold engine) to reverse. I don't have any errors but I suppose I should contact the dealer if you guys think it's serious

 

Built end of November. Picked it up end of feb
4000 on clock
Crunch noise when cold going between D N R
No error message.
Going into dealer on Wednesday to discuss

 

So far no 2016 builds reporting this.

Still in the run in period (Only 500km in) but gearbox has been silky smooth , only noise has been the optional front diff on extreme lock (and that's more tyre slip than anything else) but I've never had a car with a front diff that didn't do that so its normal as far as I'm concerned.

Build Oct/Nov - Reg December, 2.5K miles, No issues as yet.

 

Dec registered. Clunks a bit on downshift when cold but fine otherwise, 4k miles and shifts perfectly up and down.

 

I got a late December registered GLA45 AMG was built I guess in Late November, Early December, it was put in build queue. (I do not know if Engine, and Gearbox are identical to Hatches and saloons)?

No problems so far 5k miles almost, though it is hesitant, and sluggish moving when around 1st and 2nd gear sometimes, and the occasional slight jerk, though I believe that is quite common.

main thing is sometimes get major hesitation when driving slow in sport plus or sport and want to overtake I floor it and sometimes its got a bad delay, not all the time

 

FL with locking differential, build September 15

- violent grinding issue when putting R on cold engine
- gearbox cooling warning popped once, for no reason (car was not hammered nor it was hot)
- sometimes hesitant to shift up (hits limiter, then it stays for some seconds)
- once or twice switched to manual mode for no reason


Third and forth one might be caused by me ussing the paddles, I dont have any recordings of that so I could check and verify if paddles were pressed... Dont remeber for sure.

3,400 miles
No issues so far except from usual rattles.

 

Having heard the sound from a forum user, that's definitely not normal. I would be straight down to the dealer and be very assertive about having the problem resolved. I suspect it may require a new gearbox.

Keep us posted. My advice is be very forceful with Mercedes and the dealer to get it resolved well within warranty.

The clunking is normal.

That grinding noise people are describing is definitely not.

I will keep a look out for it. I think its still too warm in Sydney at the moment (haven't had a day less than 25 degrees. Winter is coming though.
Thanks for the info. I tend to warm up the car for 5 mins before going anywhere anyways (just a habit). Ill have to try it on cold start just to see if there is issues.

 

September build, Picked up FL car on 1st Oct.

Run-in religiously.

Reverse 'crunches' when cold, although more high pitch brushing of teeth rather than a heavy crunch. Only does it if the car is cold and I start it up to move it. If I wait for the revs to drop before moving off the it's fine for the most part.

Also has done it warm if I forget to turn off the Eco button and the car tries to shut down just as I select reverse.....only done that once.

P.s. This noise is not to be confused with the reversing camera popping out.

I have been living/avoiding cold moving, so will watch this thread with interest.

A45 Fully loaded. - No Areo pack - Picked up Dec 24 2015. 65 plate

Run in as per instructions on windscreen. Only driven on weekends so car is stone cold during initial start up on Saturday morning. Run up to AMG temperatures before any kickdown/sport/sport+/race mode or race start are used.

No problems at all (other than me not knowing how to use race start correctly) Only slightly annoying thing is the passenger seat belt tapping on the airbag cover on the side of the recaro seat bolster.
