The other aspect of the system I dislike is combining wash and wipe. Bring back the old system where I cold spray the windscreen without wiping. The current system scrapes the wiper across the sand and mud or ice on the screen before the de-icer washer fluid gets there.

 

Mine definitely doesn’t and it’ll **** you up if you forget 😂

 

I'd wondered this myself as they've activated a few times now on startup but that wasn't in frosty weather.
I don't trust the sensor so I'd turn the stalk to 0 before pushing the starter button just so the wipers don't try and move if they're frozen.

 

On a previous car (VW golf), I could leave the wipers on auto knowing that there was some sort of sensor that stopped them from dragging across the screen on frosty mornings. So far I haven't tested this on the new car, just make sure that the wipers are turned off on a frosty morning before I start the car. Does the MB have this facility?

 

Spoke to the dealers and they said that dust or anything really can set it off

 

Left stalk- rotating end- there is an off position

Never leave them in Auto, especially in winter as one frozen morning will ruin your blades

 

Dust dirt and sunshine on the screen will set it off when you start the car.


As will moisture and rain, of course

 

Ive stopped using the auto function after a gritter went past me and threw it all over my windscreen, the wipers then automatically wiped all the grit over the windscreen, which scratched it.

 

My car start does that also. Started about a week ago. I'was wondering, can that dust affect? After winter that mount of dust is something amazing.

 

Yes, as Yogi says turn them off in the dry if you don't want them to inadvertently wipe, which was the same with my W176 as well. It hasn't rained on the A35 yet, so I've not turned them on.

Apparently, you're not meant to leave them on automatic.

They're automatic in regards to regulating the speed and frequency of wipes and not automatic in the same way that the headlights are - make sense?

 

Is it normal for cars to be like that? This is the first automatic wiper car I've had, so I'm not sure.
They haven't designed the wiper/indicator stork very well if it's meant to be in the off position most of the time. Doesn't feel right when operating the indicators in the off position.

 

Mine started it yesterday.
