My daughter-in-law is looking for a used B-Class and the range mirrors the A-Class,

am I correct thatwith the diesel engines the,</span>

1461 cc is a Renault engine

2143 cc is the MB

it's not going to be a deal breaker but given the choice we'd prefer MB,

out of interest has anybody had any negative issues with the Renault engine ?

thanks

Only that it's a nippy little bu**er so it's easy to find that you've exceeded the speed limit sooner than expected

It can get a little "winded" if you don't change down soon enough on a hill, but once the turbo's spinning again it picks up very nicely.

Don't know what it's like with an auto gearbox, that wasn't an option on my ECO model but it does me nicely enough with the manual box.

From what I've read, the basic Renault engine is pretty well rated and I did read somewhere that MB had changed/modified something like 80% of the components anyway. TBH, I very much doubt that MB would have used it if they thought there was any potential to tarnish their own name.

I concur with Chrism. It is nippy, economical, and only suffers if you don't change down early enough on steeper hills (the turbo does negate this though). I regularly get 65mpg (sometimes more) and economy was my most important criteria.

10,000 miles in 7 months and I'm glad I chose it over the A200. The extra money (for me) didn't justify it (company car).

only Renault if bought with the manual gearbox

Can't say anything bad about the one I had, while my A200 (1.8) CDI was in for a service, except it was more thirsty than the larger engine on the journeys I did.
