Hi,

I am looking to swap the radiator grill trim/ propellor blade on my car.

My car came with a satin silver surround and I’m looking to change it to black.

The price of the replacement part is only £45 from my local Mercedes dealership, but they are looking for £120 to fit it.

I’m happy to pay them to do it if required, but my guess is that the part will just clip off the car and the chrome strips will clip of the part (which I’ll be retaining from my car just now) and everything will clip back together again.

Has anyone been through this process before. Any advice? Is it as simple as I’m hoping? Will I require any specific tools?

Thanks

Are you talking about just the MB emblem on the grill or the whole grill. If you want to swap the entire grill then 120 in labour is a steal.
It requires the entire front bumper, wheels and multiple cables to come off. And the grill itself is horribly to unclip. You couldn’t do it in just a few hours yourself. And without the right tools and a friend to help you risk breaking a plastic clip.

The big front MB emblem is just switched over since there are just two versions of that; a normal “3D” one where the propeller blades sticks out, and a flat glossy one for cars with the distronic radar sensor behind it.
In theory the emblem can be twisted off, but I believe you actually need to remove the front number to access it from the back because the clips lock it extremely well.

It unfortunately won’t on the w177 a class. As I said before, the front bumper needs to come off so it can be removed from the back. In theory you could twist the emblem off from from the front. But try to do it - it’s not easy at all and I had do get the bumper off when changing the grill anyway. And if you would manage to twist the emblem off from the front, then it wouldn’t change anything, the trim strip is an integrated part of the grill that requires the bumper to be removed. It’s not impossible though. Plenty of guides and videos out there.
