Folks my car is in for a service today and I asked them to disable the TPMS as I have a set of aftermarket wheels on and the light is on the dash. The Service guy told me this can't be done, is he talking out his ar$e.

I could have sworn that someone had theirs disabled?
That's what I thought, a few of us have aftermarket wheels so not sure if they had transferred the sensor when they were getting their wheels changed.

I'm pretty sure it can be done and they are just being lazy Bs

Unsure of the price in the UK but going by that I'm guessing around ÂŁ170 - before the cost of removing the tyres (if fitted),fitting sensors / tyres back on and programming!

All the while risking thenew wheels being marked in the process.

It's a safety feature, not sure if it's wise to get rid of it. Retrofitting the sensors on any aftermarket wheels doesn't require to take the tyre off again, just deflating it, slightly depressing it and replacing the valves with the sensor, done.
Appreciate what your saying but its a pain to have to get everything reprogrammed everytime I swap the wheels over and the additional cost. Also I'm not sure how much longer I'll be keeping the car as I sold my GT-R and bought the wife a Macan so the A45 will now be mine once her new car arrives.

Hello:

TPMS learns what sender is comming from each corner by comparing the signals with the rotating spees detected by the ABS sensors on each wheel.
This happens everytime the car is restarted, that's why TPMS is not available immediatly and you need to drive the car a few meters, so the system can confirm where each sender is.
So if you have a second set of wheels, you just have to fit them with compatible sensors (and admit I do not know witch are), and everytime you replace or rotate wheels, TPMS will recognize immediatly the right sender on eatch corner. Clever and with todays technology, it´s also simple.

^ UK Spec A45’s have pressure transducers attached to the valves, so report actual pressures to the receivers, which in turn are displayed in the car. UK A45’s do not utilise the ABS ring to calculate wheel speed.

This is a very old thread.

I have a 2014 pre-FL A45. The dealership that I bought it from in Edinburgh put a set of replica AMG cross-spoke rims on it, with no TPMS valves. I have just bought a new set of aftermarket rims (which look amazing! :D), but the shop that I went to to install the wheels told me that he didn't think my car has the TPMS, just the ABS low pressure warning system. Is this possible? The TPMS system with wireless sensors on the valves was an option in the UK on pre-FL A45 cars?

This appears to be the case on my car unfortunately. If it is, does anybody know whether it is possible to retrofit this feature? Would it be a case of installing the sensors and updating the firmware on the ECU(s)? Any insights would be much appreciated!

See this thread, you need to find out which option code your car was built with:
