I recently had a few minor issues with mine, POIs not always showing, sometimes losing 'Home', etc. A week before the car was due to go in for the update (FU3) the start/stop packed up. The car is still under warranty.

My dealer (Sandown Mercedes in Newbury, Berks) did everything I asked for without question and also replaced the battery as it was likely to be the culprit.

So far, so good... but I must say I'm impressed with Sandown in Newbury, they have only just taken over the franchise this February and seem to be just as professional as the previous owner, Sytner.
I finally sorted out my problem with the car. l purchased a new battery out of my own pocket £200.00. Although less than 4000 miles and 18 months old.
Fed up with Mercedes dealership telling me it was ok.
Had it tested by two other outlets, and told it was faulty
Car now running perfect,. STUFF Mercedes!

Well I'm glad you have it sorted but that is shocking service, it might be worth phoning MB CS to complain

Hi Mac,
I initially done what you suggested, which helped Helped greatly.
It was just my sheer frustration, with numerous trips back and forth to the dealers. Forty mile round trip each time.
I’m beginning to enjoy driving the car now, no abs, lane assist, esp lights etc, appearing.
It was obvious, that these systems like their proper voltage. Although my ctek charger indicated that my battery would hold a charge, after a few days the voltage would drop, and the dreaded warning lights would appear. Mercedes answer was to give the battery a quick boost, and send me on my way!
The old battery, showed that it was three years old btw!

So here I am at a Mercedes dealer waiting for my car to be serviced, when I get a message from Mercedes Me that the charge level of my car's starter battery is critically low. A walk over to the part of the customer area that looks out on to the workshop, and my car is on the lift with its bonnet open and all its lights are on! Could these two events be related??

I wouldn't worry too much about this, well in my case anyway, My starter battery was on critical during the first lockdown for 4 weeks, and when I came to start it for the first time in around 6 weeks, it fired up no problem.

Hi, I brought my 2019 A Class 3 months ago from Mercedes it had 500 miles on the clock. The battery has just died and Mercedes are sending RAC out. I drove it 250 miles a few weeks ago & since then it’s only had a few 5 min journeys to the gym and back. Reading the Mercedes site, it says I need to run the engine every 2 weeks for at least 15 minutes consistently (which I’ve not done in the last 2 weeks). Do any car experts think me not doing this has caused this issue, or does it sound like an issue with the car/battery? Thanks

As your 2019 car has only 500 miles on the clock the probable truth is that your car was not driven for months and during that time the battery completely discharged which will not have done it any good.

I bought my car at 6 months old with 800 miles and during the first lockdown when it was on the drive I kept getting critical battery emails and I eventually persuaded MB to replace the battery since when I've had no further problems.

Unfortunately with the new fangled charging systems now on cars a 250 mile drive will not guarantee a fully charged battery so you will either need to leave it with MB overnight to give it a full charge or charge it yourself with a good quality charger such as a QTEK, if the battery then still keeps going flat get MB to replace it.

Hi, I’m looking to see if any other have had issues with their 12v batteries. My car is almost 3 years old and is due its first mot and it’s service next month. My battery is showing as partially charged. I drive each day around 38 miles, on mercedes me after my daily journey it states fully charged and then within a few hours it states partially charged. My question is, is this normal? Never had this issue prior to now. Also how long should a battery last. After how many years do mercedes recommend the battery be replaced? Would this be something that could be changed under the warranty as surely a battery should last longer than just under 3 years. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

Does you start stop work?
that’s one of the symptoms that your battery isn’t up to full state of charge.
If your start stop doesn’t work, tell the workshop that, ask them to check the health of the battery and replace it under warranty if faulty.

How long a battery lasts is often a factor of how it is used. Car batteries last longest if they are kept fully charged so modern charging systems are no friend of batteries as they are designed to improve mpg by reducing the charging current from the alternator (ie load on the engine) in preference to the longevity of batteries.

I bought my A250 at six months old with just 800 miles on the clock so it is a reasonable bet that it had been laid up for long periods and the battery had probably depleted or even flat for some time. However, there was no obvious evidence that the battery was less than perfect because when driving the dashboard volt meter tended to read 12.3 - 12.5 volts except when decelerating when it went up to 14.5v, then in the first lockdown I regularly got the Critical Battery warning so when it went in for its first service I asked them to look into this and they fitted a new battery. After this the dash voltmeter read 14.7v most of the time except after a long motorway run when it dropped to 12.5v but soon recovered after some town driving which seems to suggest that if a battery is in perfect health we should see a 14.5v+ when driving in town but it also tells us that when driving on Mways that the charging system will only keep the battery partially charged.

But back to your battery, after 3 years it would be handy to have a new battery under warranty so telling the dealer that your battery is not holding its charge overnight might be enough to get them to replace the battery, particularly if you explain that you don't want a hefty bill for replacing the battery just when the warranty runs out.

Hey guys,

I've got a 2019 A35, with a Ghost Immobiliser, Scorpion Tracker and hardwired Nextbase Dashcam all fitted. The tracker was fitted by previous owner (not a great fitting as it's easy to find and disconnect), but the Immobiliser and Dashcam were fitted by Autocommunications who are one of the best in the game for vehicle safety.

Ever since I had the immobiliser and dash cam fitted, I've been getting warning about 12v battery low, which I figured is just because the Nextbase dash cam enters parking mode, and then cuts power once the battery gets below 12v. But I figured it stabilises at just under 12v.

However, the other day, the car would not start. I had an alert saying the battery was critical, and loads of errors message about the adaptive suspension and HUD. I called out Roadside Assistance who jumpstarted the car and then ran the car for a few hours to pick up charge, but really this should not be happening to such a new battery?

3 days before this happened, the car had been on a long drive and it does get used regularly, albeit not always long drives.

Has anyone had any issues like this or any advice? I've got it booked at my dealership to run additional diagnostics and hoping its just a battery fault which can be replaced under warranty

I would check the maunal for instructions but I pushed the red cover to one side and connected the red +ve clip and connected the black clip to the brass nut by the wing, I believe that this is the -ve ground point.
I tried that but found i could not close bonnet so called ctek for advice and they said you can also use negative terminal

Interesting reading through this thread, I've got a 6 month old A class and seen the 'Check 12v battery, see owners manual' message 4 times in the last month and it's been bugging me why I am getting it. It always goes away after a drive and no issues starting the car. It feels like it shows more often than no when cold weather hits. I'm not driving everyday but at least a reasonable drive 2-3 days a week.

I'm waiting for it to pop again and then I might take it in to MB.

It seems to be a standard feature. I took V8's advice (see post 28 above) and MB replaced the battery but it's back to square one. If I don't drive it for 1 day I get the 'critical' text and if I'm not intending to use it for a few days I put it on charge. The messages often tell you to go for a drive, in this 'Green' day and age that seems like a total waste of expensive petrol, but hey my car tells me I have been so good on the throttle that I have had 4.9 free km in the 16000km I've done. Good luck with MB.

Cheers, yeah I will do that. Ironically though since posting I've haven't had the pop up message again, although I have been driving a tad more over the last few weeks. 1 day sounds ridiculous, I haven't seen it quite as bad in my situation as that but will keep a check on it.

Hi,

I just got alerted that my battery is critical - run if for 60 mins etc.
Unfortunately I am not at home and wont be thru dec 20th. What damage is going to be done, or can I stick it on a battery charger?

I dont have anyone that can run it for me, and its wrapped under a cover to keep it clean and frost free as the year progresses.

any advice?

thanks

Recently had a similar issue after being parked but for the months. Main battery would no longer hold charge. Called out Mercedes Assist who confirmed that battery needed to be replaced. Had to pay since warranty only covers 6 weeks of non use according to Mercedes Assist. Secondary issue was auxiliary battery in centre console needs to be replaced. This was covered by warranty but had to wait weeks as there is a supply issue and lots of dealers have on back order. My advice is to get a battery conditioner and leave that on whilst away for extended period of time.
