It does when its been sitting with the service dept for 3 weeks waiting on replacement cylinder head parts.
For a brand new A35, whether fl or not is shocking. MB have had over four years to sort this out.

The actual A45 exhaust sound was also fabulous.

I’m sure once this is fixed you’ll enjoy a trouble free car.

Hello I would be nice to know if the new 2023 version suffers with this problem or have they upgraded the head on the new one's, I am thinking of purchasing an A35 but this is putting me off big time cannot be doing with the hassle.
I Haven't heard of any late 2022 - 2023 PRe-FL cars having the cylinder issue, also I have come from A35 2020 to FL A35, and I can tell you the engine idles insanely smooth I couldn't believe the difference between the two, I always remember the first thing I noticed in my old A35 even when new was it never idled smooth.... If this is related to the parts change I've no idea.

Hi Has anyone determined what the root cause is. There was a mention of valve guides..

Would the A45 cylinder fit .
Welcome to the forum.

I’ll let an A35 owner come back to you on what they consider the root cause to be.

See

"The valve guide and/or seat ring may wear over time due to increased lateral forces during operation. This could potentially cause combustion misfire for cylinder 1 through 4, resulting in an activation of the check engine Malfunction Indicator Lamp (“MIL”)."

I doubt it so much because a45 has a different engine block
A45s M139 engine shares the same block derived from the M260 !

See this article:

Also the captions on this video:

But the installation in the A45s is 180 degrees round compared to the A35.

Ok.. thanks .. I've just bought a 2019 A35 with 20k... Wondering if retro fitting newer valve guides would be a good preventative measure.
Most like there's a good number of engine builders that can do this.
Rather than a pre-emptive rebuild I would make sure you take out warranty cover but also are you able to find out if it’s had the engine work done already.

Calling MB tomorrow.

1. I want to be sure the current service history covers and loop holes they may allow them to wriggle out. ( missed service etc)
2. That the specific commonly raised issue of the valve guide failure will be covered by the warranty. Seeing as cars suffering this fault covered under warranty have been corrected, I'm hoping this want be an issue.
3. Will ask if the work has been done in the past. Be interested to see if the work has been done already..

Thanks for the response.. I assume the fix is a final solution.. No fear of this returning. ?
Recently repaired cars ie in last couple of years seem to have been fixed permanently.

So mines gone today. 2019 W177 at 19k miles. First symptom a CEL with a misfire code. On restarting it fired on 4 and the lamp went off.

It went for diags - code cleared and was fine.

However I’ve noticed idle and rpms between 1250-1750 driving to be ‘lumpy’. That’s got progressively worse.

that and fuel economy has gone down 25%. I could get 40mpg on a good run. 28-30 recently, same driving style.

was in for service and diags end of June. It’s now confirmed it’s lost compression on THREE cylinders!

full warranty replacement.

Did you have extended warranty.. I've bought the extended warranty but it doesnt start till June 13th .. almost scared to drive it till then..

Glad to hear you have been given a resolution. hopefully it doesn't take long to sort.
