It would be useful to get a handle on what's going on with the A35 engine and how many are effected and how long MB are taking to get the cars fixed
For a brand new A35, whether fl or not is shocking. MB have had over four years to sort this out.It does when its been sitting with the service dept for 3 weeks waiting on replacement cylinder head parts.
I Haven't heard of any late 2022 - 2023 PRe-FL cars having the cylinder issue, also I have come from A35 2020 to FL A35, and I can tell you the engine idles insanely smooth I couldn't believe the difference between the two, I always remember the first thing I noticed in my old A35 even when new was it never idled smooth.... If this is related to the parts change I've no idea.Hello I would be nice to know if the new 2023 version suffers with this problem or have they upgraded the head on the new one's, I am thinking of purchasing an A35 but this is putting me off big time cannot be doing with the hassle.
Welcome to the forum.Hi Has anyone determined what the root cause is. There was a mention of valve guides..
Would the A45 cylinder fit .

Ok.. thanks .. I've just bought a 2019 A35 with 20k... Wondering if retro fitting newer valve guides would be a good preventative measure.
I doubt it so much because a45 has a different engine blockHi Has anyone determined what the root cause is. There was a mention of valve guides..

A45s M139 engine shares the same block derived from the M260 !I doubt it so much because a45 has a different engine block
Rather than a pre-emptive rebuild I would make sure you take out warranty cover but also are you able to find out if it’s had the engine work done already.Ok.. thanks .. I've just bought a 2019 A35 with 20k... Wondering if retro fitting newer valve guides would be a good preventative measure.
Most like there's a good number of engine builders that can do this.
Calling MB tomorrow.Rather than a pre-emptive rebuild I would make sure you take out warranty cover but also are you able to find out if it’s had the engine work done already.
Thanks for the response.. I assume the fix is a final solution.. No fear of this returning. ?Lots of owners, including myself have had this issue fixed under extended Mercedes-Benz warranty without any drama. If you come accross a dealer that gives you any cause for concern, move on to the next.
Recently repaired cars ie in last couple of years seem to have been fixed permanently. Thanks for the response.. I assume the fix is a final solution.. No fear of this returning. ?
Good news.. I've just read the Not covered aspects in the T&C's and its looks quite promising.Recently repaired cars ie in last couple of years seem to have been fixed permanently.
I have 50k miles and all perfect only had to change driveshafts and thats it.So mines gone today. 2019 W177 at 19k miles. First symptom a CEL with a misfire code. On restarting it fired on 4 and the lamp went off.
It went for diags - code cleared and was fine.
However I’ve noticed idle and rpms between 1250-1750 driving to be ‘lumpy’. That’s got progressively worse.
that and fuel economy has gone down 25%. I could get 40mpg on a good run. 28-30 recently, same driving style.
was in for service and diags end of June. It’s now confirmed it’s lost compression on THREE cylinders!
full warranty replacement.

Rally does seem to be pot luck with this. I’ve had some very heavy modded cars and drive them with respect. Especially forced induction. I was very surprised its failed on 3….usually just the one From what I’ve read.I have 50k miles and all perfect only had to change driveshafts and thats it.
