My buddy with 45k kms had a misfire in cylinder 1 and was running rough. Did an ignition coil swap and it's all good. Thought it was gonna be the cylinder head but that's typically seen for cylinder 3 right. Anyway, his car is fine, sometimes it can be just the small stuff. A coil was like $130 to replace here. He's tuned stage 2 also but changes oil quite frequently. Spark plugs were changed to be the right heat range. I'm at 30k kms with no issues.
Be prepared to change the remaking 3 coils, cars that I've had re mapped tend to wreck older coils, last Audi I had 3 coils went within 1 month.

Hello all, I’ve got a 2019 a35 incoming next week from for a non MB dealer. Be an idiot I paid a non refundable deposit before finding this thread. Obviously I’m concerned about this issue but I either I loose the 1k deposit or I take the risk. I’ve read the whole thread and it seems thr cost of repair ranges from 3k through to 6.5k in the Uk? Seems very variable. Anyone know why or has a more accurate cost?

Are there any 3rd party warranties that would cover this issue ?

thanks

Other warranties will cover it but have limits on how much they'll pay out per claim. The head problem cost is £7k for starters, don't think they'll cover that.
Other option is buy a different car from same dealer soo don't loose your deposit

I presume that’s 7k from MB dealer? Anyone have any examples of non MB mechanics? I’m having my head replaced on another car of mine with new cams heads etc and it’s going to cost around 3k . I fail to see why it so expensive unless the whole bottom end of getting rebuilt?

Cos' it's a Merc.
Buy an Audi RS3 or S3, better and less problems.

Bought mine in the knowledge about this. In relation to the Approved used two year AMG warranty should I have received any paperwork?
I do not know if there is any difference between the UK and Europe, but I do have a paper stating the used warranty of two years.

Yes, received mine a week after I bought it. Do check it is for 2 years as mine only said 1 year and that was corrected when I phoned them. Another warranty letter was posted to me with the correct 2 year period.

Having the Mercedes Me registration has been a problem though. Despite going to the local main dealer and showing my V5 and driving licence and phoning them multiple times, I'm still not on the system.

Mercedes Approved used warranty on AMG products is two years in the UK. Even with two years I had reliability worries and got shot.

I had a quote from MB Dealer of £5k+ and it was to replace the entire top end basically. Taken to an MB Specialist and quoted £2.5k for a rebuild.

Madness that MB still haven't recognised this issue, yet have a massive backlog on parts for the repairs.

I suspect its a commercial decision, cheaper to repair piecemeal than to recall/rework all cars, as not all cars (or even the majority) fail.

And don't care about reputation because the A-Class is end of line, no more A-Classes in the future.

I am afraid I can join the club with my 2021 A220. The car is jerking sometimes at a constant speed, with the needle of the tachometer slightly jerking. I will keep an eye on it. Car is idling fine (needle not moving) and no engine light either. 😢

I feel stupid I didn’t noticed it when I test drove it.
Still have MB used warranty until february 2025.

At least you are covered, which is the main thing.

Well that is really cheap from a prestigious car maker such as MB..
A-Class is a mass market product, and M-B as a whole is not a “prestigious” car maker. They may have some ‘prestigious’ or ‘premium’ cars in their line up eg S-Class, but M-B make vans, busses, trucks, and their cars are used as taxi’s in many parts of Europe. Not a hallmark of a ‘prestigious’ brand ;)

They take other manufacturers products eg Renault Kangoo and stick on a M-B badge and call it a Mercedes Citan. Or a Nissan Navara, and call it the X-Class. A ‘premium’ or ‘prestigious’ brand would not exhibit this behaviour.

Their marketing and advertising would have you believe that they are a ‘prestigious’ or ‘premium’ brand however ;)

The worst thing about the cylinder issue is that MB are washing their hands of it, generally speaking, once the car is out of warranty. But then again most manufacturers probably do the same. Once we go fully electric I think the loyalty to so called prestige brands will start to be challenged.

Got mine mine booked in at the local dealer for after the holiday. Last week they checked the car for faults remotely. Only 1 fault regarding the drivetrain was found, but they said that fault was just registered as a one time fault.

Still no CEL or noticeable misfires at idle. Only juddering and dancing RPM needle on constant speeds. I wonder if they will make the head diagnosis.

We will see, I will keep this updated.
