Fingers crossed it won't recur as it is a revised part number.

Now we are talking about it, anyone noticed a strange exhaust sound when suffering from the head issue? I know the M260 sounds weird from itself, but at the back of the car (exhaust) it sounds like a tractor.

Hopefully this is cured when changing the head.

Sneakily :)

Although there is zero evidence of mobile phones ever causing a fire at petrol stations..... bit like some aspects of this 'pandemic'....... but people just accept that mobile phones + petrol pumps = danger.
I wouldn’t worry about mobile phone.I’m more concerned by the Tesco shop person smoking about 50 ft from the pumps !

Just picked up my car after the cilinder head got replaced. Dropped it off yesterday morning, so they worked on it for 1,5 day. Car is butter smooth again on steady speeds! 🙌🏼

Still jerky sometimes when pulling of or shifting, but I think it’s just the characteristic of the gearbox.

Glad it's back with you. I'm yet to find a DCT gearbox that doesn't have any hesitation or jerking.

I thought I might as well add my case to this list, to keep the momentum going. Just had my 2019, 22K, A35 back after 10 days in the workshop. New cylinder head fitted and car is driving fine, for now. I'm glad to be back in a proper handling car, as my loaner GLA drove like a boat.

I noticed in earlier posts, that the extended warranty was circa £500 for 2 years. Its literally doubled in price now 😳

At least the good news is that you were covered.

But quite honestly for MB to shirk responsibility for anyone claiming, or rather trying to claim, outside the manufacturer's warranty period is quite moronic of them. When they know this is a defect of their own making and will not help future sales.

considering I was told by multiple garages that I needed a new engine which on average is around 4k for a decent second hand one. I would say this is a good total price for my repair. Obviously I didn’t have to pay labour ect because I took the task on myself. But this just gives you a rough idea.
Thanks
Hi friend , you can help with provide part numbers ?
I have same problem on GLB with M260 engine

hi guys, after reading this thread I'm a little worried about picking my A35 up this weekend that I've just bought 2nd hand.
its a 20 plate a35 premium. already paid an inflated price for it so the last thing I want is for it to have engine issues!
did you end up picking it up?

im in the same boat now, just paid holding deposit but dont collect until next Saturday. It’s just run out of the 3 year warranty last week and it’s making me VERY nervous to say the least. I really do not know whether it would be worth ringing MB and stating that the car has known issues and see if they offer extended warranty or even have the cylinder heads changed when I get it?

what has everyone in the UK done and has anyone got letters from MB to acknowledge the issue?

thanks
Ben

Unfortunately it isn’t, but it is from a reputable high end car dealership. I am going to make enquiries tomorrow with MB to see as the warranty ran out last month.

Have you tried to find out if the car has had the engine work done. If so there is little to worry about.

On the MB goodwill gesture point of view, they very rarely do it. Other than N America MB have just left the car owner to suffer the consequences of this well known defect.

Thank you, that is helpful. I know the dealer who is selling me it has just said they are sorting the most recent service so will double check it was dealer service as the first 2 were for sure

thank you

I got the misfire about a week ago and brough into a MB specialist shop to check.. Cant remember if the guy told me its a crack on the valve or the cylinder head

If you are purchasing your used A35 from a M-B dealer, it will come with 2 years used AMG Warranty.
I bought the A35 2021 Oct, so it probably ended right before it happens.. by the way where you find the 2 years used AMG Warranty? I couldn't find it at all..

And I am wondering if I can still get the extended warranty if thats the case, might as well buy it and wait a bit longer, then bring it back to the MB dealer with the extended warranty to cover all this? its ridiculous to pay 5k for a car worth less than 25k...

I got it from them directly, here is the link - just make sure you have had it serviced in accordance with MB. Mercedes-Benz Extended Warranty
