Anyone bought a charger for maintaining the battery between outings that they can recommend. Still 2 years on warranty so don't want to use a bit of kit that may cause issues.

Thanks

No mine came with a pair of crocodile clips and a separate lead you can hard wire in under the bonnet. I'm not sure if it would charge through the cigarette lighter as I don't think it's permanently live.

For your info, CTEK also make the Mercedes branded chargers which are a lot more expensive. They even use the same cases.

If you charge it from the cigarette lighter is that not defeating the object of using the thing??I have one for another summer-use car I had, and it plugs in the wall. Lovely piece of kit, just leave it on over the winter
They are talking about putting power into the cigarette lighter socket, not taking power from it.

Remember the lighter circuit is connected to the battery, so you can run the power in in reverse as a trickle charge. Just depends on if that circuit is a permanent circuit or switched with the ignition.

The last days I am also making research in car battery chargers.. Apparently CTEK is the best company out there and is actually the OE maker for battery chargers for most of the automotive companies like Mercedes Benz, Porsche, etc.

The original MB charger is the exact same charger with MXS 5.0, essentially just rebranded (it even has the ctek model name written on it). I can have the original from the dealer for circa 120euros, whereas the MXS 5.0 is abt 92euros, but if you add on that another 15euros for the cigarette lighter adapter (the MB version comes with the cig lighter adapter, the ctek comes with another adapter which is screwed on the battery terminal bolts), it makes the MB more attractive, having the mb logo on it for the same price :)

As for the cig lighter adapter, it has to be a "live" socket, i.e. not to cut the power when ignition is off. Haven't checked the A45, but in my W463 the front lighter cuts off with ignition, but the rear is permanently on.

It looks to be an identical unit to the 3.8 (same charge current) but with less indicators and less functionality!

So personally, I think it’s a marketing badging exercise to make people think that they need this if they have a start/stop car 😂

If it were my money I’d go for the 3.8 or 5 as those have more functions and indications :)

Hey folks, I'm planning to go on a long vacation abroad and won't be using the car for ~2 months. Any specific advise (e.g. fuel level to leave at?) on how I should leave the car so that I have the least trouble getting it back on when I come back?

I'll be using a dedicated indoors parking, so weather wear-and-tear is sorted.

I would also inflate the tyres to their maximum recommended pressures as otherwise you could come back to indented tyres.

Also disarm keyless entry (double click clock button on the key) as this uses battery when activated.
