So I still need to install my dashcam since getting the car. In my previous 1 series there was a handy 12v outlet under the glove box but it doesn't seem the A Class as the same accessibility so just wondering where the best place would be to pick up a feed and make a piggy back connection.

How exactly do I access the passenger fuse compartment?
I understand I had to remove the foot mats, then the floor carpet, but cant do that properly because there is a plastic piece (panel) covering the sills and going up on the door.
How do I remove that piece? Tried to pull it away from one side (from the bottom) but is still stuck into some hinge or some other restrain system and I dont want to break or rip anything. Can anyone explain how to remove that plastic panel so I can remove the carpet properly?

Thanks!

Ignition Live turns off with the ignition, in old money if you turned the key to off. Nowadays in cars like the W177 it stays live for some time after exiting the car, about 30 minutes if I recall.

The other type is Permanent Live, which is connected to the battery bus and remains powered all the time. I used fuse slot 162 for that, as my dashcam has a parking mode and smart voltage cut-off to avoid draining the battery.

Hi,
I tried to use the fuse slot 162 but found that it also turns off (after 50 minutes). I first thought it was my smart voltage cut-off detecting the battery voltage going under the threshold. But I don't think it is (More details in this thread where I explained it using the fuse 160 but they both behave the same way).
Does your dashcam parking mode run longer than an hour ? Depending on the recording mode of the parking mode, it should last around 10 hours and easily 5 hours. What about your setup ?

I’ve had a Nextbase 312GW for two years now and have only just found out it has parking mode. Currently have it hardwired into ignition live fuse 125. Obviously I’d now like to make use of the parking mode and from what I’ve read people have used fuse 162 for the permanent live feed.

My question is.... can I simply swap the piggy back over from 125 to 162 and carry on as normal? Or does anything else need doing?

Okay so I found out today how to test parking mode in the simplest way ever - closing the boot. Can’t believe I didn’t think of it earlier. I assume closing the bonnet would have the same effect too. So parking mode on a Nextbase 312GW definitely works in ignition live (125), it comes on for 30 seconds to record all footage before going back off again.

Very happy that I didn’t have to use the wife’s car to give it a nudge in the end! Also caught some kids out playing football by my car when I went to visit my grandparents. Little shits must have absolutely vollied the ball against it, wish I’d seen the footage at the time!

And that brings me back to topic... although parking mode works, it’s not without it’s faults. Unless you connect to the dashcam and physically check the footage, there’s no actual notification that parking mode has been activated, no message on startup. Not ideal. Anyone know if the second gen Nextbase cams tell you or not?

Any suggestions? I'm not getting any power.

I'm using only a 2amp for each piggyback cable.

Question: Do I have to use a second amp on each piggyback in order to get power?

- I installed the ground point on my side panel which seems to have worked fine with my hardware kit while testing fuse slots for power.

I've just wired my dash cam and ended up using fuse 126 it's working ok but I can't find out what it's usual function is. I tried to use 125 as suggested by V8 but the double fuse holder won't fit because of the adjacent relay. Fuse 126 is 20A but it's not listed on the fuse allocation sheet. Anyone (V8) know what it is for?

Just joined, as wife has just picked up a 22 plate A class. Managed to run all wiring to the dash cam, a Nextbase, but I can’t get the piggy back fuse holder into 126 or that area, as the lump on the side is not flexible. One side the relay is in the way, the other the hard plastic of the fuse box. Any provide any help? I see pictures of it installed in this thread, so need to know what to do. Different sort of piggy back adaptor maybe?

Thanks

I had a similar issue with the piggy back adapter having the small protuberance on the end of it. I ended up putting it in "back to front" (doing this requires a fuse in both slots of the adapter). It was still a PITA to fit it under the plastic lip of the fusebox but managed it. You can buy adapters that don't cause the issue - probably the best option if you are not in a hurry.

Hi all

Looking to install a parking battery to run the dashcam when it's installed. The best spot from a wiring viewpoint would be under the passenger front seat - the battery pack is 40mm high ( 150mm x 170mm x 38mm ) - is there enough room under the seat for it to fit? I plan on using velcro to hold it in place.

Thanks

Hi
I will be installing a dashcam into my new W177 when it arrives and I will be powering it from a Blackvue parking mode battery ( which will be hardwired to the fuse box in the passenger footwell ).

How much room is there underneath the passenger seat? The battery is about 40mm high.

Thanks
It depends on the spec of your car, there are ECU's under the seats depending on car spec, so space will vary according to model & spec.

You'll just have to wait for your actual car to see for yourself.
