New to Mercedes and I’m finding out new things every day. Thought it helpful to start a thread sharing useful nuggets of info, e.g. MBUX commands possibly not documented.

Here’s something I just discovered.

If you press and hold the voice command button on the steering wheel, it activates the voice assistant on your mobile (providing it is connected via Bluetooth). For me it activates Siri.

Not really a tip but found the lock/unlock doors function via Mercedes Me app actually quite useful today.
A package I ordered was delivered to a neighbour of mine today while I was at work. They got in touch with me to say they had it but were going away and so I’d have to wait til they got back to pick it up.

I was on the phone to them so told them to walk to my car, I unlocked the doors, they left it in the car and I locked the doors again.

Job done.

Like it, although not something that you would use all the time. Don't think I would be opening my car from a distance. If you have this and a key, what is the point of having the NFC to open the doors??

Found this tip too last night but not had a chance to test it yet.

Agree about the concerns of locking unlocking at distance. I did get my neighbour to confirm doors had closed again.

I think nfc can also be used to give other people access to use the vehicle. You leave the key in the car and grant access to someone via Mercedes me I think. They open the car via nfc and can then use it as normal. Not sure if this is available in uk or maybe not just yet.

Just spent all day trying to sort this out for myself, including a call to Mercedes which was no help.

1. Use your browser to go to www.mercedes.me
2. Log in
3. Check your details
4. Select the options that you want (which will basically be all)
5. This is the one that Mercedes said I did not need. You need to verify who you are, your dealer should have done this but if it is like mine, the man who does it was off and it never got done, so you can either go back or use your phones webcam, just press the option in the portal and it will redirect you. You need to give your phone number and have your passport. They record the call, ask you questions about birthplace and date of birth, then you show your passport to them, waving your hands to prove it is not fake and they authorise it immediately.
6. Go back on the portal to make sure everything is turned on.

There are some things that you have to pay for, but they will not activate unless you give credit card details on the Mercedes store.

You then need to have your car running for 20-30 minutes to let the system set up the maps and telediagnostics.

Hope this helps. Let me know how you get on. My car is not parked near so I cannot check until tomorrow. (I have neighbours that will be jealous of a new merc)

Hi,
Tried this but it was all registered by my dealer when I collected. It shows the odemoter reading on the car so is linked. I have been on portal and activated them all however, when you go back to the app and click on the icons again it says you need to activate them via portal which I’ve already done. Just going round in circles.
Will ring dealer and take it in so they can do it.
Thanks for help though.

If you double press the lock button on the key fob it will deactivate the keyless go and will stop the key fob transmitting. In doing this the key cannot be scanned by thieves that will enable them to start and drive off without your key. Just another press of any button will re-activate. Good idea to do this when going to bed at night.

Can’t remeber what the button is called but it’s the one above the favourites button on the left of the touchpad. Anyway if you press and hold this, it allows quick access to the wide angle rear view on the infotainment screen.

Don’t think it works when you’re driving at speed though.

Don't know if anybody knows this as this is my first A-Class. If you press and hold the lock button on the key fob or the outside of the handle on keyless entry, it will close all the windows. Likewise if you press and hold the unlock button on the keyfob or the inside of the handle on keyless entry, it will open all the windows.

Also if you have an MP4 movie on your phone and you connect via USB, you can watch them on the screen with sound. It will also play any videos you have recorded on your phone. The only worry I have found is that when I started the car and put it into drive, it stayed playing, which is concerning considering that a lot of options wont show when you are driving so it doesn't distract you. Could just see myself sat in traffic watching a movie lol

Here's a tip for you all. If you need to take the car for work in the dealership then make sure you get a courtesy car. I have just dropped mine off after 3 days of ownership to get things fixed and have driven away in a Mercedes GLC AMG Line fully loaded, and it is lovely. The 9 speed auto gearbox makes the 7 speed in the A-Class seem a bit rough. The only thing is that the dash is old fashion and not as sophisticated.

Don't know how I will feel when I get back in my own car though.

That is quite lucky! When I had my A Class and it went in I usually got a GLA or another A Class.
My C Class coupe went in a few weeks ago and I got given a top spec E Class cabriolet for a few days which was brilliant. It was only when I got back in mine I realised how smooth and refined it was, it did make me wanna go out and buy one though!

Just found this on another thread. For those with advanced nav/augmented reality.

“Turns out when at the front, at lights, the camera comes on so that you (the driver) can see traffic lights closest to car that you may not be able to see from your driving position.”

Swiping left or right on the top part of the touchpad (where the next and previous buttons are) controls audio no matter which screen you are on. This works on Android Auto as well.

Also, pressing the touchpad in on the next and previous buttons, bring up a small media control section on the bottom on the center screen where you can control the media.

If you use the speed limiter or the cruise control, you can double press down on the set rocker switch and it will automatically set the current legal speed limit. Ideal when you look in the mirror and see a police car behind, saves you having to look down and try and set it. If the speed limit then changes, just reset it again and it will change to the new limit.

This is from the owner's manual: 'When the vehicle comes to a standstill the electric parking brake is applied if one of the following conditions is fulfilled: The engine is switched off; the driver's door is opened."
You will know it is applied when the red P appears in the instrument cluster.
