I have had the dealership call me regarding the Mercedes service plan, I had a bit of trouble when I first had the car (November) and I was given a free service for this year. In the service plan the cost of the second years service comes out at a whopping £467.75 this is for a major service plus brake fluid change, now to me this is bordering on a Porsche service costs for a small family hatchback. The cost of the service plan has increased fro £28 to £29 per month

The question I would like answering is do you have to have the brake fluid changed at 2 years or could you ask them to test it to see if it actually needed changing, also my car is on a 3 year pcp so do you have to have it serviced at Mercedes or can you take it to a vat registered garage. I would assume that I would be contacted before the 3 years is up for another pcp so the 3rd year service wouldn’t come into it. The cost they have quoted for the 3rd service is £849.81 which includes a minor service plus air filter, spark plugs and transmission oil change, mind blowing really.

I was browsing through WIS and saw the service sheet for the W177 and remember a discussion on the forum about gearbox oil changes. The interval depends on the gearbox type and apparently, not all 7G or 8Gs are the same.
7399

My car for example is an A250 4matic with gearbox code 724.0 which does not have a time interval associated with it, but at every 77500 miles. A diesel A220d with 8G transmission (724.1) needs an oil change 3 years or 31,000 whichever comes first. I think the A200 petrols and below come with 700.42 which is 3y or 46,500.

I wouldn’t bother going to a main dealer for servicing anymore, they rip you off badly. There are enough independent places out there with better prices that will do the exact same job.

Mercedes Liverpool quoted £30 a month for the service plan, yet there’s a BMW/Merc specialist round the corner that do one for £20 a month. I took my 3 series there and have been more than happy with their work so will definitely be using them when my A180 is due for a service. It’s only a 2 year service plan so I’ll be looking at taking that out next January following the A service.

I have a new CLA, the 3 year service plan is half what I pay for my mobile phone per month. Its cheaper than my 16 Plate VW GTI was to service plus Mercedes will refund any unused value if you sell the car and the VW was cheaper to service the my daughters Fiesta by a main dealer. I'd paid 5 installments to VW but not had a service but there was no refund when I cancelled and bought the Merc

You can go to any garage that is a registered business and they should be able to source MB parts for you as well, however, when you sell the car if you want to be able to say full MB service history and have the service registered on the MB database it will need to be a MB dealer or independent MB specialist

I thought there were offers of 3 years free service for MB's below the A45s and A35.

On buying second hand I personally would only buy one serviced at a franchised dealer but in terms of selling it may not make much difference if you are going to hang on to it for a good few years.

So I had my first service today on the A35 and yes thanks to V8 I quoted TIPS G154 p10 071664 and they changed the battery under warranty, so thanks for the tip. I've had 32 'Me' critical battery warnings. The battery is the same spec VARTA so we'll see if it goes the same way after a week or two. The cost of an A service here was $850 which in your money is about £535, don't know how that compares at your end.

Nobody's making any mountains and no points are being proved.

You literally said in post #65 that a gearbox oil change is mileage dependent.

The fact is, it isn't wholly mileage dependent, is it, it is based on time as well (depending on which gearbox you have).

In this time of lockdown where cars are not being driven as much, we don't want anyone to be surprised when at 3 years, they get a charge for gearbox oil change, despite the car only being driven say 20,000 miles. :)

My experience is that if you stop and HOLD the stop/start engages straight away, but if I stop and hold the car on the brakes it depends on how hard I am pressing the brakes, if it very light the engine can stay on but then go off but if the brakes are on firmly the engine goes off.

However, the description in the online manual suggests that it could be that if you are at a Stop sign or behind a car that is pulling away or turn the wheel hard the engine will not stop but this description is ambiguous. It makes these statements but as events when the engine will stop but it mentions these after saying the engine stops when you brake to a halt so they seem superfluous. But if you read the 09/2020 manual it says

"If the system detects an intelligent stop inhibitor, e.g. a stop sign, the engine will not stop."

Which is why I wonder whether the earlier manuals are really saying the engine will not stop in these circumstances, not sure and haven't tried them out yet to see 🙄

Other than these I can't think of any 'driving conditions' that would effect SS

Mot is not included in the SP.

An MB garage will give you a guide price so you'd probably do better to ask them rather than get a general ballpark idea from us.

Have you guys looked at a 3 year plan. I noticed it reduced for the A45s. You can always cancel and get your money back for any remaining time, as I have in the past, if you don't keep your car that long. I would just caution that you look at the service types and costs covered in the 3 years so if you cancel the day after the service in year 2 it doesn't mean owing MB money.

It sailed through the MOT, ie no items of note, but I had to call the dealership back as I couldn't see any of the recall work on the paperwork. It was all done apparently. Better comms would be good.

I'm guessing we will get a separate notification at some stage, fairly soon, about paying for continued apps use.

Welcome to the forum.

The service plan isn’t meant to save you money on the cost of a service but spread the cost. But in my experience when I didn’t have a service plan it always ended up being more than quoted with additional items required doing. In addition at my local MB it includes pick up and drop off or a courtesy car.

All done thanks. The dent repair guy confirmed, his suspicion, it almost certainly happened at the dealership with someone's elbow against the panel. I said I also didn't pursue it as I didn't want someone getting sacked. He said it happens all the time at dealerships, and nothing would have happened 🤷‍♂️

You can start a service plan today and pay for this service and future services in installments. The amount that you pay, the monthly premium will be higher as you will be playing catch up as the plan will try and get you to a level where you had paid enough to cover your service in a year's time as well.

The quote you have will invariably increase from my experience without a service plan. MB garages always find extras which you won't refuse.

My AMG A45 cost me £350 1st service, £520 2nd service, and was £800 to £1000 for the 3rd service, although I sold before 3rd service. I've recently posted this on another thread. I dont know what model you have but for anything more mainstream than the AMG its excessive. You would have to check with the car supplier re servicing at an indie. You'd be free to do this without affecting the warranty if it was your own car. As for brake fluid change I've seen comments here that its unnecessary especially at 2 years. I'm pretty sure its not mandatory, just recommended. Your supplier may have a penalty for dodging the last service, can't imagine they'd miss that trick. I owned my AMG so I'm afraid I'm not au fait with leasing company conditions. In the thrill of getting a new car, and when the numbers are all so big, we tend to gloss over the servicing costs until they fall due. We all do it - know I do.

I have an A200 premium which I really like but it only has a 1.4 engine and I only do approx 6000 miles per year, even the person who rang from the dealership said they couldn’t believe the service costs for the new A Class. It will pay me to take the service plan out at £29 a month which is £350 and a lot less than the £467 they quoted. Maybe that’s why they put service costs so high so that people will take out long service plans with them.
I am on a 3 year pcp so will definitely swap before the third service is due - the charges on a par with a high performance Porsche engine.

I'm amazed at these servicing costs for a 1.4. I suppose they can at a stretch be justified for the AMG and the performance demands they have to meet, but not for a 1.4 surely. We sure pay through the nose for that 3 pointed star. I traded in for a BMW M240i 2 months ago with 3k miles on clock. The idrive is showing 1st service due at 14k miles or May 2019, cost is approx £300. Very impressed with M240i but that's another story.
