I have had the dealership call me regarding the Mercedes service plan, I had a bit of trouble when I first had the car (November) and I was given a free service for this year. In the service plan the cost of the second years service comes out at a whopping £467.75 this is for a major service plus brake fluid change, now to me this is bordering on a Porsche service costs for a small family hatchback. The cost of the service plan has increased fro £28 to £29 per month

The question I would like answering is do you have to have the brake fluid changed at 2 years or could you ask them to test it to see if it actually needed changing, also my car is on a 3 year pcp so do you have to have it serviced at Mercedes or can you take it to a vat registered garage. I would assume that I would be contacted before the 3 years is up for another pcp so the 3rd year service wouldn’t come into it. The cost they have quoted for the 3rd service is £849.81 which includes a minor service plus air filter, spark plugs and transmission oil change, mind blowing really.

My AMG A45 cost me £350 1st service, £520 2nd service, and was £800 to £1000 for the 3rd service, although I sold before 3rd service. I've recently posted this on another thread. I dont know what model you have but for anything more mainstream than the AMG its excessive. You would have to check with the car supplier re servicing at an indie. You'd be free to do this without affecting the warranty if it was your own car. As for brake fluid change I've seen comments here that its unnecessary especially at 2 years. I'm pretty sure its not mandatory, just recommended. Your supplier may have a penalty for dodging the last service, can't imagine they'd miss that trick. I owned my AMG so I'm afraid I'm not au fait with leasing company conditions. In the thrill of getting a new car, and when the numbers are all so big, we tend to gloss over the servicing costs until they fall due. We all do it - know I do.

I have an A200 premium which I really like but it only has a 1.4 engine and I only do approx 6000 miles per year, even the person who rang from the dealership said they couldn’t believe the service costs for the new A Class. It will pay me to take the service plan out at £29 a month which is £350 and a lot less than the £467 they quoted. Maybe that’s why they put service costs so high so that people will take out long service plans with them.
I am on a 3 year pcp so will definitely swap before the third service is due - the charges on a par with a high performance Porsche engine.

I'm amazed at these servicing costs for a 1.4. I suppose they can at a stretch be justified for the AMG and the performance demands they have to meet, but not for a 1.4 surely. We sure pay through the nose for that 3 pointed star. I traded in for a BMW M240i 2 months ago with 3k miles on clock. The idrive is showing 1st service due at 14k miles or May 2019, cost is approx £300. Very impressed with M240i but that's another story.

Morning all, I’ve just agreed to a personal lease for 3 years on an a250 amg premium line and the quote for maintenance is £42 per month inc vat. This includes all services, tyre replacements and so forth. I had decided not to do this however reading this thread I am reconsidering. I’d like to know if people think I’m better off paying this monthly rate or just paying the service at the time myself.

Cheers
Mark

For my A180 I’ve decided to pay the £29/month from Mercedes rather than the lease cover. If you think you’re going to get through loads of tyres then the lease deal may work out better.

Frustratingly, the free servicing deal on right now is only for pcp/lease directly from Mercedes this time so I’m not eligible.

My original argument was the cost for the second and third service (I have got the first one free) for which they are quoting £1,317.56 which for a 1.4 engine in my case was quite staggering considering the car won’t have done 20,000 miles over the 3 years. I shall take the service plan out for 2 years and if I swap the car before the 3rd service is due they will issue a refund on what extra I have paid or transfer over to another car.

The £29 per month (it went up in January)is only valid if taken out in the first year of ownership, if taken out after the first year it is currently £32 a month and will obviously rise each year.

I received a letter in the post yesterday from MBUK thanking me for taking out a service care plan and that my payment plan was enclosed. To my confusion there was no payment plan enclosed, but this was mixed with relief as I had only told the Mercedes delivery driver that I was interested in hearing more about it, not that I actually wanted to sign up.

For peace of mind I decided to follow it up today with a call to the MBSW dealership in Exeter who supplied my vehicle, just to ensure that they wouldn’t be taking c£30 a month out of my account without my consent. They confirmed that they wouldn’t be, as I had apparently qualified for 2 years’ free servicing!

Obviously I didn’t challenge this but I’m still wondering how, as I ordered late July/early August and the vehicle was only delivered in January (delayed from December due to emissions). Judging my previous threads I was pretty convinced I’d fallen between the gaps of all the offers, so perhaps they offered it out of goodwill given my 5 month wait? Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

We ordered our A250 AMG Line 4Matic in Nov 18, it's due to arrive at the dealer this week.

When we ordered it 3 years free servicing was included, however, when I looked at all of the paperwork back at home, there was no mention of it, so rang the sales guy.

His reply was, "it was, however, we had to take delivery by 31 Dec 18, as the car was going to be built and delivered in 2019 we didn't qualify". What a load of ****, we got enticed by the offer, but they had a caveat that wasn't discussed at the time of ordering.

It was 3 years servicing for cars registered by 30 sept and then 2 years if registered by 31 Dec. if it’s being registered in jan you should qualify for the current offer which is 3 years free servicing but only If you take out a Mercedes finance plan. Think the min amount you have to finance is £3k

I think the servicing offer runs to 31 March. I don’t see it on the Mercedes offers page any more but it’s still listed on drive the deal and other mb dealerships such as lookers and southwest. I would double check with your dealer. My dealer didn’t even mention the servicing offer - I had to raise it a couple of times with them.

335d Thanks for the info, I spoke to our sales guy last week, he came back today confirming our car will have the free servicing deal included.

We are parting company with a 435d GC X Drive.[/QUOTE]
No problem, that’s good news, glad to hear. It’s good to get it especially as they do seem to charge so much for their servicing. I changed out of a 335d touring xdrive. Didn’t think there would be too many making a similar change?

My wife is a lifelong BMW fan, however, the 4 GC has proven to be too big for her, she's has a few parking knocks. We looked at other BMW's and Mini's, there was nothing that appealed to her, I tried to push her towards the X2, no joy.

Because our son has an AMG A45, that swayed her. She nearly chose the AMG A35.

Since taking mine in for the brake recall a few weeks ago, the dealer has been pestering me to take out the service plan, they have quoted the below. I am on a 3yr lease doing 12k miles per annum, assuming i will need 3 services, is this better value than paying on the day?

As i am new to MB ownership, any advice much appreciated.

"You can opt to cover 2, 3 or 4 services:

2 services over 24 monthly payments of £29
2 services paid via a one-off payment of £696

3 services over 36 monthly payments of £29
3 services paid via a one-off payment of £1044

4 services over 48 monthly payments of £29
4 services paid via a one-off payment of £1392

Here are some of the benefits of the service care plan:

These payments are interest-free and include VAT.
Cover the service A and B and the Mercedes-Benz service additional items (such as brake fluid, air filter, fuel filter, automatic transmission, spark plugs etc.).
You can also use the service care plan at any Mercedes-Benz retailer in the UK
It will cover the extra cost of you opting for a Collect service.
You are not tied into the care plan for the remainder of the contract if you do sell the vehicle. "

Every dealer seems to quote a slightly different price. Also with the plan you get a loan or collection included - usually chargeable.

As mine is a (3 year) lease I possibly could have delayed the first two services and therefore not had to do a third. This worked well for my previous car, but that was on an 18,000 mile schedule. For the Merc it would be more difficult (as every 15,500) so I just opted for the 3 services/3 year plan. I don't think it'll save much (if anything) but just seems to be easier.

I thought it was free. If it's chargeable then it's not included as anyone can pay for a loaner when they have a service surely?

I wouldn’t bother going to a main dealer for servicing anymore, they rip you off badly. There are enough independent places out there with better prices that will do the exact same job.

Mercedes Liverpool quoted £30 a month for the service plan, yet there’s a BMW/Merc specialist round the corner that do one for £20 a month. I took my 3 series there and have been more than happy with their work so will definitely be using them when my A180 is due for a service. It’s only a 2 year service plan so I’ll be looking at taking that out next January following the A service.
