I’ve just had a B service on Monday, as Forrester,I pay monthly as paying up front for 4 services made no difference to cost, which seems bizarre. It looks like the car sat all day until approx 4:00- 4:15 then car moved and bonnet open.when I returned at 5;15 to collect car it parked up ready to collect, that’s time and motion for you. I did receive a video which gave me an advisory, front tyres at 6,400 miles, 4.85 of tread will need further investigation in 3 months. Do dealers really think we are that gullible, I used a slightly different phrase at the time.

 

My car was active most of the day while at my dealership and only driven a 100 meter or so. And never had to pay for the loan car insurance 👍👍

 

All service tasks are given a time to complete, oil change is usually 25mins. Time and motion was popular back in the late 70s where individual jobs were given a minute value, it’s now called value for money.

 

Did any of you guys have the diff oil changed. If so, that might explain why it was in one spot for a long time. On the original A45 it was a 3 hour wait for the oil to drain from the diff.

 

I’ll check my paperwork when I get home to see what was done. I do know the brake fluid was changed as I saw that on the video.

 

No diff oil change, just a plain, quick B service. They gave me a EQB 4 matic, I have to say it was ok, pleasant to drive nice and quiet!!!!.

This only applies to A35, A45, and models with 4Matic (eg A250 4Matic). All other front wheel drive cars will not have a rear diff.

I would take a look at this thread where I have posted about my less than good service experience. Please do check your service print out because the problem is caused by the service work sheet being created on the date that you book the service. At least that is the case at the MB garage I have used for the last three services.

I have looked back at the print out from the past three services and each is not based upon the precise age of the car. So the third service was carried out showing the car was 33 months old when it was 36. The 2022 was one month too low as was 2021.

All I can say is that I hope other items didn't fall through the cracks in their structuring of how the work sheets are generated.

It is allowed to go up to 30 days over one's service date and still get a stamp and comply with all one's guarantees as well as Mobilo.

If you are tired of having service in January, move your service gradually so that you end up in February/March

 

I wouldn’t leave it more than a month late otherwise it will lead to quibbling with MB about any warranty claims, if relevant.

 

I just bought a used A250e. I really don't understand the service intervals for Mercedes. What is Service A and Service B?
From my understand, the service A interval is 1 year / 10.000 miles
Service B is 2 years / 20.000 miles
My car did the service B last year, does it means I don't need to service it this year? (that's what dealer said when handover the car)

From driving the A200, you’ll also find that when you put your foot down you would expect more pickup.

Im sure this discussion has come up many times on the forum however I would like to know if my PCP deal is good/bad and whether I should choose this over a bank loan.

Spec of my car

Mercedes A35
Cosmos Black
AMG Style Pack
Aero Pack
Advanced Navigation
Dampened Suspension

PCP Deal is

• Car is new factory built priced at £39,900
• £10k Part Exchange for old A class - price down to £29,900 after deducting Part Exchange
• 4 year PCP, 10k miles
• 6.3% APR with payments of £358 per month
• GFV value at £18,720

Bank loan (from my local bank)

• £22,500 loan (any bigger loan would mean even higher monthly payments which not interested in)
• Over 5 years (instead of 4 years PCP)
• 5.2% APR with payments of £425 per month
• I would need to add around £7k of my own money to cover the cost of the car (is that crazy?)

I can afford to pay the £7k but hesitant to put the £7k down when I could be simply paying £358 a month (keeping the 7k) if I took the PCP.

My big concern with PCP is, yes £358 a month is great but what happens at the end? I am pretty sure after 4 years the car will be less than the GFV meaning I will be in negative equity, I am pretty sure it's extremely rare for the car to be worth more than the GFV value at the end, I understand that.

If I give the car back I am left with nothing,If I part exchange, then I will likely have to roll the negative equity into a new PCP, which means higher monthly payments for the next car, especially when considering navigator credit union customer service for financing options. Another concern is I will not have a deposit which makes financing the new PCP especially for a new car almost impossible unless there are some incredible PCP deals around. Am I right?

Benefits of the bank loan is I pay the monthly payments, don't worry about mileage etc and can keep the car if I wish without the worries of what happens in 4 years. Negative is obviously higher monthly payments and putting £7k of my own money in

I'm sure not so long ago I seen a link on here that proved that some MB dealers gave a big discount [50 %..?] to service cars older than 5 years..?? Anyone shed some light on this..?..mine has reached 91k and is due a service in 900 miles from now. Eastern MB at Newbridge Edinburgh has just quoted me £260 for a standard "C" service for next week...then I remebered this discount thing I read on here... Thanks in advance

 

I recall Audi used to regularly offer older cars (3+ years) good deals on servicing, but don’t recall any similar offers from M-B. Audi also do a price match

M-B regularly throw in “free” servicing on new/used cars bought from the dealer with/without financing.

Also a more recent addition is the MoT to service plans.

*Some M-B dealers used to offer a “Value Service” for cars older than 7 years, but this did not follow the official M-B service schedule, it was an oil and filter change plus a few other bits, and would not qualify for the M-B corrosion warranty as it didn’t include all the inspection checks etc.

 

I would get the service plan. It puts a cap on your general service cost. My previous MBs without a plan even when they were a few years old never came away being charged just the price quoted. There were always a bunch of add on I got charged for.

 

I bought an A250e saloon (V177) 2020 reg last July with 77k on the clock.

It has full MB service history with the last service having being done Last april which on the documentation says they have performed service B however under the repalced/renewed column it says they performed Service A with plus package which is a little confusing. That service was done at 76k miles.

The service before that was done in August 2023 which was a Service B with the following Replaced/Renewed:

• Battery for Keyless-GO key replaced
• Air filter element replaced
• Spark plugs replaced
• Automatic transmission: oil and filter change
• Engine: oil and filter change

This service was done at 60k miles.

Im next due a service in April this year or 91k miles, I have looked at getting a service plan and im quoted at £960 or £40 a month for two services and two MOTs. That feels quite steep given it averages at roughly £480 per service so im wondering if it worth it. To my understanding the gearbox service is every 40k miles so if they dont do it this year theyll do it next year and so is it worth still paying for the service plan as PAYG might still be more expensive if theres another gearbox service incoming?

 

Welcome to the forum.

The service plan isn’t meant to save you money on the cost of a service but spread the cost. But in my experience when I didn’t have a service plan it always ended up being more than quoted with additional items required doing. In addition at my local MB it includes pick up and drop off or a courtesy car.

 

My A35 is due this soon. I’ve asked a couple of places to give me an estimate but neither have replied yet.
Curious to know how much yours cost so I can decide which organ to donate sooner rather than later.
