Multi-link or Torsion Beam

Hi all, just a quick one.

I'm in the market for a used petrol W177 and was wondering what year/model I should go for that will mean I get the multi-link rear suspension (U55). I'm not interested in the true AMG or a250, just anything below those that will not be torsion beam.

My understanding is if I go for any amg-line model before 2020 July it will have it? Does anyone know how I can check when shopping around?

Lastly, does anyone know if there is any real difference between the two?

Hi guy’s.

Have just taken delivery of a new A180 AMG Line premium. Have only done about 400 miles so far, but have noticed the suspension is noisier than expected, and that there seems to be excessive road noise from the tyres. I’m running on continental‘s eco sports.
is there a way of finding out which type of rear suspension I have by visually looking, as the car is so low it’s difficult to get underneath.

So I have just traded my A180 SE auto for the A200 sport premium.
The A180 SE always seemed to crash and bang, over the crap roads that we have here in the UK. As I understand it, the 180 has torsion beam suspension.? The model I have now seems really good, a vast improvement, I am very pleased. Is it possible that I have multi link suspension? I tried entering my vin on various web sites, but it will not show. My cars vin is WDD1770872V020321.
Would one of you kind chaps look it up for me? Also the build date.
car was registered Feb 2019.
Thanks to all.

Hi I have seen mentioned That the 2022 version of the A250 (I have one on order) has been relegated to torsion bar rear axle!
Has any one actually seen this in writing?
in the uk 2022 brochure it confIrms the Full AMG models have the multi link, but there’s no mention of rear
axel type regarding A250 as was shown in previous brochure edition’s!

From July 2021 only A35 & A45 get the multi link rear suspension. All other UK models get torsion bar.

But no A250 owner on here has definitively said otherwise... The only way to tell for sure is to look at the option codes on your build sheet. Or look underneath the car.

No, as they don't publish that level of detail in the brochures.
Dealers get detailed feature additions/removal info prior to MY changes.
So ask someone knowledgeable at your dealership.

Eg:

Plus brochures are notoriously unreliable for specs - "Features and Specifications may vary " etc.

But the only place in the Jan 2022 brochure Multi Link axle is mentioned, is for the A35 and A45 models.

When you do get your car, you can report back on here and help other members with a definitive answer :)

The brochure was uploaded to here but I cannot register to get in to it. You might have more luck.

I too cannot open it.

I am looking to see if the w177 2018 AMG line A180 and A200 (these ones specfically) come with multi link session. I got abit confused through this trail  I think this trail is saying the early models got multi link, but it changed later?

Thank you all on your help, the car should arrive next week at some time it's an A220 AMG Line in Mountain gray in what seems a quite nice spec: MBUX, Ambient lighting, big screens (both), Heads up display, Burmester surround sound, Led high-performance lights, etc... with a little over 12K miles.
Hey man, I have the same vehicle. 2021 A220 Amg line. Have you done any modifications to it yet?
