Hi all, I know this is an A35 forum but my GLB 35 also needs new cylinder heads. Check engine light, lots of vibrations at idle and a cylinder 2 misfire when scanner was plugged in. After being towed to the dealer and a couple tests later (and 3 weeks later); they have ordered a new cylinder head from germany. I'm in Australia so wait time is up to 8 weeks... FML
Hi @ngunyeimproved. Sorry to here you've had this issue.

What's the age and mileage of your car and did MB admit it was a warranty issue straight away?

Dealer said it'll be under warranty and a heap of tests were done (plugs, coils, smoke testing etc)
After 2+ weeks that were told to take apart the cylinder head.
One week after, they've ordered another one.
6-8 weeks for it to arrive from Germany so I'm not too happy.
Have been given a gla 250 as a loaner car.

Figured I would post here, USA 2021 a35 16k miles recently had check engine light come on. Mercedes ran a remote diagnostic and I was informed today that the results make them think it's a fuel injector balancing issue. However, they also mentioned that whoever reviewed the diagnostics thinks they "may need to bring in the engineering team from germany".

Maybe they misheard the tech but that statement lead to me finding this post and I have a feeling they are anticipating this being the issue. Fingers crossed but the symptoms all fit with what i have read here so MY 21 may not be immune this issue.

Sorry to hear. The wait times in Europe haven’t been short either.

Follow up, dealership confirmed cylinder head replacement for my a35, so I guess that confirms the my 21 isn't immune to this issue.

3 weeks for parts, so with repair work I guess I'll see my car in September.
That's actually no worse than people in Europe are experiencing. Fingers crossed it's no longer. But it is a real issue if your later model is also affected, although it could be an earlier version given the shipping times involved.

Update from sydney, aus:

Parts have arrived and dealer has started working on the car today. I had to follow up as my Mercedes app was showing the ignition being switched on and off.

I probably have the same issue with an a250. Engine not running as it should at low rpm, engine light indication came on and the readout shows issue at cylinder 2. The dealers only have time for an inspection half way through September so am looking for other options as the car is out of warranty 😞
@Leww11 do you have access to a workshop manual? I might do the head removal myself if I have the proper info although I can't find any on the Internet.

Thanks.

Add one to the tally. Jan 2021 A35 with 15k miles, just had the same problem occur. Still in warranty, so MBZ Breakdown came out and rescued it to the nearest dealership.
Symptoms were all fine until I pulled on to the motorway, just lost all power and engine refused to run above 2k rpm. Dealership have diagnosed it as requiring a replacement cylinder head, eta on the part is a couple of weeks currently.
Got a C200 as a loaner until it's ready, this thing drives like a boat...

Sorry to hear but at least you have a loan car and the time the dealership have given you is a lot less than most, who can't even get the MB dealers to take their car in.

2018 W177 A250 from Italy here, my car was tuned when my head gasket blew back in April, so I had to pay for the repair. I actually had to pay for a new engine because the wall of the cylinder 1 got scratched.
Problem is that they refused to check the car, thinking it was just the tuned ECU/exhaust. They only changed the engine and reverted the car to stock.

The car is now completely stock and the new engine is running at 98-122 degrees. I can also hear bubbles from the coolant reservoir and a single loud knocking noise after about 1 minute from a cold start. I'm not getting any check engine light, but I didn't get one with the old engine neither...

I'll bring the car to the workshop again on Monday

I’ve noticed that the A35/A250 seems to run regularly above 100c. Even in the high 30’s temperatures we’ve had recently my A45s stayed below 100c. I wonder if that is a part of the longevity problem of the cylinder heads.

Unfortunately the eta from the dealership looks to have been a bit optimistic. Parts are still on order, but now with no eta available.
Unfortunately that is similar to the experience of others. Fingers crossed that they get a move on, especially as you are holding one of their cars.

Moving forward on this issue! I received a letter from MB to extend my warranty, (2019 A35 with 9600 miles) which in hindsight of this discussion of cylinder head issues, you will not be surprised I will definitely be taking up! 😄 😄

How much is the kind offer.

@Craig70 I didn’t think you’d had your car long?

All used AMG models come with two years warranty from date of purchase by second owner. Mine too is a 2019, but under warranty until Jan 2024.

Really?? I was told only 1 year from purchase. Do you have this in writing? I bought mine from a BMW dealership which is part of the Sytner Group and my MD dealership in Cheltenham is also part of the Sytner Group. When I ring the 'warranty' number I will ask the question and see what they say. Any facts from you have in regards to your (@srea064) 2 years will be very helpful when I speak to them.

@Craig70, Take a look at this website:-
