The survey @Forrester did was only on this forum, not a wide or representative base of A35 owners!

However - I do see new cases being reported almost on a weekly basis on social media.

So we really don’t know how widespread this issue is, it certainly isn’t uncommon.

OK, got that mixed up o_O Sorry @Forrester .

And you've made me feel so much better about mine :sneaky:

Are you aware of how much extending the warranty is on our cars?

Bloody **** !! :oops::oops:

I'll give them a ring later in the week and ask the question.
These guys quoted me as my A45 was coming out of warranty in 2016 for £319.67 MotorEasy: Car Warranty, MOT, Servicing, Tyres & Repairs

This what the plan was they offered, but I didn't take it up:

Product details:

Product name: Plan A

Period of the plan: 12 months

Fixed period or monthly renewable plan: Fixed period plan

Plan start date: 14/10/2016

Plan expiry date: 14/10/2017

Subproducts: N/A

Repair Contribution: £50

Plan limit: Value of car

Yes, sounds the same as I read on their site earlier.

Looks like prices have gone up quite a bit though as it would have been roughly £550 for a 12 month contract (Inc. £50 saving)

Hi Everyone, I’ve been to test drive a used A35 today (see image). Asked the dealer (independent) if the car has been in for any warranty issues. He was completely honest and transparent and told me it had for the new cylinder head. It’s done 33500 miles so quite a lot. Has anyone had anymore issues since having theres replaced?

Good but bad news. I’m nervous about purchasing the car now as I really don’t want anymore major issues as it’s a 69 plate so warranty runs out soon. I think I would 100% consider getting extended warranty for peace of mind aslong as it’s not a ridiculous price.

I would really appreciate all your advice on what to do! Also when I was test driving this fault came up? (See image) But I’m not sure if it’s because I couldnt figure out how to Demist the car. Or is it to do with the radar at the front?

See this thread:

Hello all,
I have an A35 70 plate which has just suffered the same fate around the 17000 mile mark - vibrations when idling and check engine light coming on.
It has been in the garage for a couple of weeks and I am picking it up today but I am not convinced the course of action they have taken will fix the issue.
The AMG Tech confirmed that the engine had suffered a misfire and carried out a compression check etc. He has advised a change of plugs and software update on a particular control unit within the vehicle [no further info]. Since this has been done, and another compression check carried out, the tech has reported that the vehicle is now running as it should.

I have expressed my concerns and have sent this forum thread to the garage in the event that the problem reoccurs. At least this will give them a heads up as to what will be required to fix the issue should it arise again which I highly suspect it will.

I will report back once I have driven the car and see how it performs.

You are right to be concerned but once fixed no one has posted that it has gone wrong again. But actually getting it fixed properly has quite often been a protracted job, as @Grant72 is posting. So before buying I would ask for an over weekend test drive at least so that you can check the way the car drives, and it would probably be wise to consider extended warranty.

They KNOW there is a problem here. I would say fro follow this thread for a year, a new
head is the true fix, sorry.
Agreed. There's no point the dealer trying to cut corners, a new head seems to be the only permanent fix, and MB clearly are willing to pay for it.

I was pretty resigned to the fact, based on what I had read so far, that changing some plugs etc wouldn't work so not too surprised with the outcome. They are getting the AMG tech back on the case and going to keep me updated. Instead of all the time wasting I wish they would just go with the replacement cylinder head which has shown to fix the issue in every case.

Add me to the list. New Sept ‘21 and 12.5k miles.

Engine warning light and rough running just as pulled into car park. Came back to car all fine and ran for a week with no problems or symptoms, including 2 100 mile trips.
Just after leaving house warning light and rough running, no power.
Called MercedesMe and RAC attended. Saw fault codes from both occurrences and followed me to dealer who they had called to get security to open up to allow car to be dropped off. Again car ran fine.
Call from dealer Saturday saying they had car and would look at Monday. Today advised issue with compression on cylinder 1, engine being stripped and they will keep me informed. 😟

Welcome Weegie.
That's very worrying that a car as new as yours is still suffering from the same issue as 2019 models.
I had a call from the dealer this morning saying that they are going to be looking at the cylinder head next. I am getting an upgrade on the courtesy car from a B200 to either GLA45 or CLA45.
I'll post further updates as and when I have them.

This cylinder head problem is getting a little bit nattering. My car is a late 2019 build and the 3 year warranty runs out end of Jan 2023, I've done 10k miles no problem but sod's say's it will wait till the warranty is out and my milage is around14k. Has anybody had a head replaced on an A35 after warranty or have you all had the 5 year warranty for a while now. Just wondering how MB reacted. They really ought to identify the batch, if it is a batch, and recall. It has made me wonder about an S3 but they aren't even here yet.
