I am still on FU1. What am I missing apart from Store?
The frustration of trying to get your dealer to update your software 😂

On a serious note though, the MBUX software is integrated with other modules in the car so keeping it updated to the latest release may have benefits from other modules being kept up to date as well.

If you don’t have System Info and software version - you’ve got the original or FU1 software.

You/they just have to go to an A class in their showroom, turn it on and go to System Info, if it’s been built recently, it will show the software version, that’s ‘proof’ that yours isn’t the latest level.
And most obviously I should be seeing the 'store' icon...

In the past software updates on car modules came bundled in integration levels to make sure the modules work together. If you had an update, the option list in the car was updated to reflect the integration level. I am not sure if MB is still treating updates like that, but if so then you cannot flash MBUX alone, but need to do it as a bundle to guarantee compatibility with other modules. This could explain why it takes so many hours for them to update the units.

You can flash the MBUX itself, the update files are about 8-10GB via DoIP and because they are heavily compressed it takes ages to do.

I have managed to do it in 2/3 hours with a faster laptop. (I run a mercedes specialist company, which specialises in coding)

Also another misconception is that the instrument cluster is part of the MBUX update, however the instrument cluster is a totally different system (infact the control unit for it sits under the front left seat).

The only grouped updates are the ECU, so if updating ECU, the Transmission control unit & power train control unit need to be updated at the same time. Dealers hate FUP updates as it takes up a bay in their workshop for couple of hours, and the mercedes guidance is that updates should only be done if there is a problem with the mbux system, otherwise generally best to avoid.

If you really want it updating, just say your mbux keeps crashing and screen turns off and theyll update it for you under warranty.

Great info... Does the instrument cluster then get updated separately or is it bundled with the infotainment unit?

My A250 is in the dealer today for its "B" service, now it's two years old. Last year they said they'd do the latest software updates during the service, but didn't -- though agreed to book the car in separately to do that. Pandemic cancelled that. Today, of course, the rhetoric being spouted was that there'd be no updates unless I could specifically cite issues they knew had been fixed in a newer software update. They said "it's not a mobile phone that gets regular updates automatically". I pointed out a few issues (black instrument screen randomly, among others) and they said they'd look into it. I'll get a call later today to find out.

And therein lies the problem I think for the traditional car makers -- they need to evolve into the new world. If they insist on installing vast gobs of tech into their cars, they need to support and supply bug-fixes at the very least without it being a massive hassle to get the car to a dealer and fight with them to do it. OTA updates should be a core service in the first release. My LR Discovery gets OTA updates at least 4 times a year, I've seen annoying bugs get fixed quite regularly. They even added CarPlay and Android Auto via an OTA update, for free, last year. Of course, this is JLR -- not exactly renown for the quality of their electrics and software, so there are still issues and bugs -- but I feel happier knowing I don't have to do anything laborious to (hopefully) get those fixes.

Does anyone know if other cars with MBUX are getting OTA updates these days? Curious if it's just a W177 issue.

I suspect most of us don't really know exactly what the MBUX includes or excludes. I would have assumed Infotainment inc radio, USB, Internet, ACP/AA, SatNav, Phone, Office, Bluetooth, Voice Commands, Profiles etc and you are right I would have assumed that this included the drivers display as well.

Presumably though within the MBUX there are sub modules such as SatNav, Maps, Infotainment etc that are updated OTA where as the MBUX itself is not sadly although reading this article is seems that MB think it is 🤣 Over the air: updates become upgrades at Mercedes-Benz: Always up to date: Mercedes-Benz vehicles are constantly learning over the air | marsMediaSite This is only a gentle gibe as we know FUP updates can't be done OTA but the table at the bottom of the article says the Mercedes me Store feature is available OTA on cars built pre 06/19 which it can if the MBUX has been updated to FUP1 which it was not ex factory. Probably just Marketing not understanding what Technical have told them 🤣

Just as a follow-up, I was pleasantly surprised to find they did the service and upgraded the MBUX to FUP3 (as well as updating the driver display which was having "black screen" problems, as requested). I wasn't aware that the MBUX upgrade would wipe ALL settings in MBUX -- profiles, favourites, etc. It was like starting from scratch again, and a bit confusing until I realised that the speedo was in kph not mph...

Anyway, pleased I have the latest updates hoping that fixes a few annoyances I've had since getting the car 2 years ago.

Tried to discover my car's software version. I went to 'Settings'>'System', but there was
no 'System Info' screen as mentioned by other members. What am I doing wrong?
Help appreciated. Thanks

Just had a look at my software , and it's ntg6/081.

Hi Rajeevx5,
I'm gonna try the same issue,
But where can i download the update before going to a specialist in coding?
is that possible without Ecom Doip?

I need the upgrade because i'm living and tunisia and we dont have LTE connection avaible here! So the only hope that with the new infotainement upgrade i can even share wifi from my hotspot Wifi with my phone.
Actually i'm with the fup2/063

Thank you in advance!

I just did an OTA update and I now have a new System Info menu. I went to it to see if I am on Fup 2 or 3 but the software information bit is blank (see below)

I doubt this is FUP3 though as my touchpad still doesn't do anything in Android Auto. Is there another way to find out what software I am on?

If you can't find it, it likely means you are on a version earlier than FUP2. The menu with the software version was only added with FUP2 and later.
